How many pull-ups can you do in your current condition?

A pull-up is when your palms face away from you while you hold the bar.
A chin-up is when your palms face you while you hold the bar.

When I go for months on end without working out I can usually muster up about 5. When I do some regular exercise and training I can bring it up to about 12-15. When I focus and get into the best shape my max is 30.

I don't remember ever doing one, but I know what it is, so I'd say 0.

On a good day, somewhere in the neighborhood of 15. When I was working in a warehouse every day, I could do 20-25 pretty easily.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

While commendable this just seems like a terrible idea. What happens if you find yourself aimed at an old lady crossing the street with a baby in her arms?

I go to the gym and I usually can do 3 sets of 20 pull-ups each. Sure, the start wasn't easy. And I have to rest for about 2 minutes between sets.

LOL,

Someone with special powers edited to poll to include:
Who cares? Pull-ups are dumb.

Does that mean that person would have otherwise chosen none?

20-25 depending on how fresh I am. Which kind of annoys me because I can knock out push ups like there's no tomorrow. But once I get to about 15 pull ups, I frigging start to die. I've never made it to 30, despite years of trying. Sad

Are you guys really doing your pullups with a full range of motion? From a dead hang to pulling your chin over the bar?

Not to call bullshit, but I know VERY few people who can do 15 or more pullups with good form. Most people who can are either great athletes or put a lot of work into it. So either this forum is in extremely good shape, or people are BS-ing.

I can do about 18 or 19. (hard work....not natural ability)

^ Well for my part, I put in a shitload of work on them because 10 is the minimum amount of pullups you have to do to get into Airborne school, and I plan on going this winter. I can't fall below where I am now or I may loose my slot.

I do not release my elbow joints if that is what you are asking. I go just to the point before that happens. I'd say you would call it about 95% of the way down. There is no way to get a rhythm going if you just hang between them. I'm not saying that 50% pull ups should be counted, but as an exercise they need to be helpful, not harmful.

No problem SH. I knew you were in the military, so your ability to do a ton of pullups doesn't suprise me.

But like I was saying before, most "average joe's" I know can't do more than 15 pullups with good form. I post on a few athletically-inclined forums, and even there only a relatively small % of people can do that. Which is why I was surprised that pretty much everyone who posted in this thread is a pullup prodigy Razz

One is better than none. You'd be surprised that if you did one a few times a day within a few days you would be doing two, and then three, and then four, and then, and then..

I work outside mixing concrete and laying hot tar, as well as full service landscaping, so I can definitely do 25-30 for real, but it's silly to push yourself just to brag about how many you can do because that's not a fair assessment of how many you can actually do REGULARLY.

If I try to do them again after an hour I probably can't even do 10. So usually I'll just do 15-20 in the morning, work all day, do 15-20 before bed and be a happy camper.
