IMO a great first person shooter should have great weapons. Gears of War is a good game, but I find the weaponry to be pretty bland.
So I'm just wondering what everyone's favorite weapon is? It doesn't necessarily have to be from a first person shooter either, it's just that weapons tend to be more detailed in fps's.
I love using shotguns(who doesn't) and therefore my favorite gun to use is the double barrel shotgun in Doom 2. I find a lot of games don't make their shotgun's powerful enough, but the Doom 2 shotgun is an absolute beast, it just dummies people. In my mind it's the perfect shotgun.
A few others I like are the Laptop gun in Perfect Dark for the 64, when your just about out of bullets throw it on the wall as a back-up turret. And finally, the Holy Hand Grenade in Worms Armageddon always held a special place for me. Something about a large explosion and little worms flying every where really amuses me.

Cool post, I love wasting peeps with the double barrel in Doom2, you can take out like 8 guys with one shot if you line it up right haha. Also Perfect Dark was so creative with its guns, the laptop gun was great. I loved the cyclone and the Callisto NTG (alien firepower ftw).
I love Donatello's bo-staff from TMNT Turtles in Time, it is so whoopass that the Foot don't even know what to do. Oh and while the Holy Hand Grenade is impressive I was always very nasty with the Super/Aqua Sheep, they are the Worms weapon I hold most dear.

Very good post.
The molotov cocktails in "Postal" was a definite favorite, as were the pipe bombs in "Duke Nukem 3D".

Haha QFT. Despite what some people might have said about this game, I thought the weapons were brilliant. The Terrance and Phillip mines were a good example. One was proximity like while the other worked more like a grenade.
Also I know this is recent, but the prosthetic, retractable chainsaw arm that Jack wields in Madworld is pretty undeniably brutal and badass.

Shotguns in any game.
Double Glocks like those in Goldeneye are also a favorite of mine.

I've only ever played the campaign mode and you barely get to use it properly because you can only use it outdoors, but I guess your right i'll give you that one.

The shotguns in battlefront, you can just walk up to people and cap them before they can even touch you. Also, the PPSH in CoD5. While we're at it, I'll throw in the Ball & Chain from twilight princess.

You beat me to it, that game has an unbelievable arsenal to choose from. Pulse Rifles to Bow and Arrows to Bricks, I love it.
I also love most of the guns in Doom, as well as that chainsaw.
I usually always enjoy any explosive in any game, as long as it has a good explosion sound and visual.

I have the biggest love/hate relationship with explosives haha. Especially the proximity mines from Goldeneye.

The pipe bombs in Left 4 Dead are pretty cool. You can't argue with an explosive that draws your enemies to it!

Striker/Protecta from RE 4 (Chicago Typewriter is fun but insanely overpowered)

Jewel Satellite, Black Hole Bomb and Splash Laser in MM 9
Falcon Sword in any Dragon Quest game that has it.
Shadowfang in D2X

The Vortex Cannon in Zone of the Enders 2
The Shotgun/super shotgun from the Metal Slug series, I'm sure it's already been listed.
The Mega-Buster from...well anything with Mega Man in it. (Sorry, had to list it)
Cereberus O.D. from Gungrave O.D.
The Mosin Nagant from Metal Gear Solid 3 (Have you ever tranquilized a guy in a helicopter? It's pretty satisfying, plus you have to work hard to earn this gun)
And...alot more I can't think of right now...

A dart gun/railway rifle combo is a godsend in Fallout 3 when you're dealing with a Deathclaw. Shoot it in the face with a dartgun to slow it down, then blast it with the railway rifle a few times.
The shotgun is generally the best weapon in first-person-shooters, usually because every time I play, I get all up in the enemy's face so it's harder to miss, and the shotgun is optimal for close-range fighting.
I was always disappointed to find that the Spark Shot in Resident Evil 2 isn't in any other RE game. Electricity-based weapons are always fun, but this one takes the cake.
I had this sweet pair of Great Swords in Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II that would start gushing blood every time an enemy came near.
I shall continue this as I think about it more...

Railway Rifle from Fallout 3, awesome concept, and the silly choo choo noise after it fires is great.
The gravity gun from Half Life 2 was pretty fun when there were plenty of sawblades and fire extinguishers laying about. The irradiated sniper crossbow was cool too. Oh yeah almost forgot, CROWBAR!
The hammer brothers suit in SMB3!
The shotgun with the cat silencer from postal 2 was pretty funny.
The shrink ray from Duke Nukem 3D was great fun, STOMP.
The dildo from San Andreas, what's more fun that beating a cop or rival gang member to death? Beating em with a giant dildo!

Oddly enough, a park bench is one of the most effective weapons in Dead Rising. Just bash into a crowd with one for pleasant results. Or just mow them down with an umbrella.
The Great Knife from Silent Hill 2 was slow, but very, very satisfying, plus it's cool to use the weapon of perhaps the scariest villian in all of video games.
Other favorites:
The Plasma Rifle from Doom.
The Metal Blades and the Top Spin from the Mega Man games.
The homing missiles from Contra 3 (the one on SNES)
The microwave from Maniac Mansion (HAMSTER!)
The sandwich from Ghoul School (not many games let you throw sandwiches at giant pulsating hearts)
The ice grenades from Resident Evil 3 (like the Spark Shot, it's disappointing that this hasn't been implemented into other RE games)
The pins in World Ends With You that light enemies on fire when you press the stylus in one place.
The telekinesis in Psi-Ops.
The knife in Silent Hill: Homecoming (Alex uses it like a ninja)
The Screw Attack from the Metroid games (and not just because of the awesome name)
