No bailout is going to save the pornography industry. Who, in their right mind, is going to buy a DVD when you can find ridiculous amounts of T&A for free on the Internet?
|
Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us. |

The T&A on the internet is purer, too.
The problem with porn is that they charge too much. You pay anyway from $5 - $20 for a regular DVD depending on the movie in question, and if you pay more than $14.99 then you're getting cheated. A porn DVD, you pay $25-30 for. Who in the hell is going to buy that? The internet sites are a slightly better deal, except that many of them put copyright locks on their DLC that prevent you from watching it if you cancel your subscription. Obviously there are ways around this though, all this supposedly locked material ends up free on the internet.
Of course, then there's the explotation factor of porn. The performers in these scenes get, if you'll pardon the pun, dick for wages while the producers take most of the money. Why do you think these girls do lilke 400 scenes a year? It's because that's the only way they can earn a decent living.

It also seems that the bar for pirating pronography is a lot lower than it is for ordinary movies, either because the industry doesn't have the same financial and organizational means to persue copyright violators or just doesn't care. I've never heard of somebody getting sued for pirating porn. While that probably happens too, I still think that you're a lot less likely to get caught for pirating porn than you are for pirating music or a Hollywood movie.

Oddly enough, a lot of the sites that have pirated porn have banner ads from the very sites they're pirating from.
So not only is BigMouthfuls losing money due to piracy, they're also paying the piracy sites for referential clicks.

Very funny/interesting/ridiculous thread.
Like Kubo said. porn on physical mediums (VHS, DVD etc) is doomed. It will all just be digital in time.

Online porn is becoming more and more pirated. Some stuff you figure would be namely the Sarah Palin porn Hustler did, but entire websites are being uploaded onto rapidshare and Megaupload. I believe there's a conference about the industry's future at the Adult Video Awards going on right now in Vegas -- sadly, they didn't invite me.

This is the funniest thing I've read today.
Also speaking of the Sarah Palin porns, they were lame as hell. Best line in the first one was:
"Knock...Knock."
"Who's there?"
"Sherwood..."
"Sherwood who?"
"Sherwood would like you to come over here and suck our dicks."

Just like the auto industry, it is time to reinvent the way they do business and the products they offer to match the desires and needs of the target audience. No bailout is needed because if they simply change their ways, they will be fine.
Smart production companies will continue to thrive. They will offer premium content through third party vendors online and in retail materials.
While smaller companies and amateurs will always exist, it may not be profitable for them in the future if they aren't well organized with their business practices.
