I own a ton of Hong Kong Kung fu flicks. The majority of them were all part of FOX's releases, which has to be the best collection series ever released. All the films are in widescreen, cleaned up (though far from the Miramax releases), and uncut. Miramax edits in rap music, cuts out at least 10 minutes out of every movie, and throw out the original Cantonese voice track. Iron Monkey was even rescored! A few other labels out there release these Asian films, but the classic Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, and Michelle Yeoh stuff is between Miramax and Fox.

Well, I got to watching City Hunter last night. Jackie Chan's 1992 classic he made after returning to Hong Kong swearing off American cinema forever after the years after Battle Creek Brawl (thank God, that didn't last).

City Hunter is based on a manga comic and Jacki decided the movie should be comic booky. This gets weird as sight gags are all over the place. I'm talking Batman style POWS WHAMS and OOFS! People leaving imprints as they fall through a hammer, even a FUCKING HUGE HAMMER SMASHING JACKIE INTO A TINY JACKIE! It's a mad movie to say the least.

The movie absolutely all sense of reason and sanity when Jackie ends up in an arcade against SUPER AMERICAN. A big blonde muscle bound villain. Jackie is thrown into an arcade machine of Street Fighter II and electricty runs through him like in Ernest Goes to Jail. Jackie then sees Super American as KEN! from SF! One hurricane kick later, Jackie is crushed underneath another arcade machine. Facing a character selection, he picks E Hunda and becomes E Hunda! He flies, uses 100 hand slap. Guile and Dhaslium show up at one point - extended limbs and sonic booms and all.

Finally, at the climax of the fight, Jackie becomes Chun-Li. Costume and all. Needless to say he/she woops Ken into the next century and the movie continues as though the biggest advertisment for a Capcom game produced for a movie never happened.

This was the most insane thing I have ever seen. And yet still better than the anime and the live action movie... Screw this, I need to find a way to upload this fight for everyone to see. Less, I'm just in the dark about the whole SF thing...

I think I've seen that at Target before, but it might have been City Hunter 2. I'll have to pick it up. I recently had the pleasure of watching Jackie Chan in Snake In The Eagle's Shadow in which the guy who played Drunken Master teaches a semi-retarded Jackie Chan the art of Snake kung fu. But wait! An evil Eagle Claw master is out to destroy the last remaining followers of Snake style and wipe it out forever. Oh no! It was great fun. Jackie Chan is the man.

Is that the one where he develops "alley cat" style?

All right, really crappy video is now online, see the first post for link. It's small, but you get the gist of it.

I think he calls it Cat's Claw. He invents after watching his cat Cat kill a cobra. And everytime he uses that style, you get treated to harassing screaming cat sounds. It's great.

Indeed, he does call it Cat's Claw. His master, however, finds that name totally unsuitable.

That movie is on my Amazon wishlist (for the last two weeks). I saw it when I rented it from Blockbusters a few months ago. I really liked it just because Jackie Chan develops his own fighting style over the course of the movie. I don't remember much else. Operation Scorpio reminded me of it with it's Scorpion Style technique.

This is the most awesome cheesy thing I've seen Jackie Chan do. I wouldn't mind seeing the rest of the film.

Oh... so Jackie Chan isn't coming out with his own brand of cheeses.

Good joke aside, the title was misleading, so I tweaked it.

I've seen this before, but not as much of it as in that clip.

He's acually an accomplished singer in Hong Kong, with a bunch of hit albums. Apparently, the Oprah School his was raised in, taught him more than just martial arts.

I knew right away it was going to be a clip from City Hunter.

There's another scene in City Hunter where he fights some guys in a movie theater while the Game of Death fight scene between Bruce Lee and Kareem Abdul-Jabar is playing on the screen. Jackie is getting his ass kicked, then he starts copying Bruce's moves.

Haha, ditto. And yet I've still never seen that movie in its entirety... But I'll take your Jackie Chan Street Fighter clip and raise you an entire Chinese Street Fighter MOVIE!

I've merged this thread because I'm petty and egomaniacal.
