Does this mean I can petition the government to give me $10,000 if I blow it on picking the Lions this weekend?
It'd be a dumbass pick, but hell, if I'm going to get it back anyway, why the hell not try to score on the ridiculous odds?

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

Haha. Not intentionally... I am just a Colts fan, so it's pretty primed in my head. I also happen to know that IND is a 17 point favorite. So, I was making an analogy, but your team just happened to be my fodder.

Kudos to you for sticking on the bandwagon, my friend. Many would have considered cyanide a while ago.

Who wants to join?

I was under the impression that in capitalism when a company does poorly, they are ousted out of the market by better companies or find themselves declaring bankrupcy and having to restructure faster, stronger, and better. A company fails, thats okay cause someone else who is nice and hungry will jump right in.

Not being an economics major from where I stand it looks like a big fat welfare check.

I completely agree, although I share the same affliction of not being an economist. For a supposed free market, I am amazed at the governments willingness to bail out the goliath companies. They should fail, and let another more innovative company come up the ranks, or get their shit together and start doing things right. Problem is, that the Big guns don't want to take a pay cut so the fuck everyone else over. Jesus Christ, I thought it was all about competition. If the government is going to give a company a crutch (which i'm against) maybe they should consider investing in some up and comers. This just sends a message to CEO's that if the fuck up, they will still get to be rich, and either way the people are going to get screwed.

Once Netflix starts delivering porn, the USPS will be safe. Until then, they continue to fail.

Correct on all counts. Capitalism means if you fuck up while in the market, consumers kick you out by not buying your stuff. New competitors come in, make better stuff, then eventually fail as well if they can't keep up.
Giving companies a Get Out of Jail Free card because they ran their businesses like shit isn't in the capitalist tradition (based on my understanding of it).

Once Netflix starts delivering porn, the USPS will be safe. Until then, they continue to fail.

Well, if they keep adding more movies available for online viewing...

You can also buy a netflix box so you can watch them via internet on your television.

But I figure as long as some assholes think they need 6 movies at a time, they'll make sure and keep the most popular movies delivery only rentals. So I figure the fate of the USPS is all in the hands of the Netflix members' choice of plan. More specifically, the kind of consumer who shows up at the video store first thing Tuesday morning and rents every single new release using taxpayer money and still insists on having the largest available Netflix plan.

In all seriousness, in regards to the bailout, I don't know the specifics, but I may be for it if it is conditional. For example, a manditory percentage of the money should used for domestic manufacturing to create more jobs here rather than overseas.

The bailout got voted down in senate. Now they're eyeing the treasury funds.

I hope GM doesn't go under. I paid for a 5 year warranty, I'd like to be able to use it.

Companies that do bad business shouldn't be in business.

I don't want to see lots of people lose jobs and customers lose value in their purchases... but when does this shit stop?

Capitalism is about the good companies thriving and the bad ones going away.
