Think about it. We have first-person shooters, which put you in the body of the protagonist and give you a, well, first-person perspective. We also have third-person shooters, which involve a "cameraman", so to speak - and the whole game is presented from his perspective.
Logically, this derives from the persons in the English language: 1st - Me, 2nd - You, 3rd - He/She/It. So, a second person shooter should be from the perspective of the victim you kill.
Anyone want to code this?

Now come on, stop retroactively stealing my completely original ideas.

Speaking of this, I had an idea back in 1996 called "Kill The Doom Guy". The basic idea was that you were the Spider Mastermind, sending hordes of hapless baddies to confront the unstoppable Doom Guy. In each level, you'd start with a shot of the map and a list of available monsters. You'd place monsters on the map, then when you were done, you'd press start and watch them attempt to kill him. To advance to the next level, you'd have to deal a target amount of damage to Doom Guy.
The number of monsters you could place on a board would be based on a point system, and you could earn more points by placing various power-ups and weapons in the level. It was a fairly interesting idea... I'm surprised no one's done it.

Hey, that's a fun idea! The tricky bit is, what keeps the player from placing every possible baddie at the entrance to the level? I'm sure there's a way around that, though.

There are a few baseball games where you are in the eyes of the catcher while pitching and while batting.
Would that count?

No, because you don't kill anybody.

Rooms would have capacity limits. Rooms towards the entrance would be allowed fewer enemies than rooms towards the exit, which happens to be how they usually designed the levels.

That sounds sort of like Warcraft II (I use that example because it's the only Warcraft game I've played)
The "point system" you described is analagus to WC's resource system, and the "power-ups" you described would be similar to WC's upgrades (from a Town Hall to a Keep, for example.)

First thing I thought of was the Level 1 boss in Battletoads. That had a novelty value for me, but a whole game of that? I don't know.

The few times I've played an FPS online, it felt like a 2nd person shooter.

wait, so if you are in the view of the victim here would that mean you were still either in 1st or 3rd person depending on the view, thats unless your are still controlling the guy doing the killing right?

In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For us, El Guapo is a big, dangerous man who wants to kill us. But as sure as my name is Lucky Day, the people of Santa Poco can conquer their own personal El Guapo, who also happens to be *the actual* El Guapo! |

You control the guy doing the killing, but you do so from a victimseye view.

There was also a 2nd person battle with Shredder in Turtles in Time.

Actually, the POV was from behind Shredder, so that would make it fourth-person. If it were second-person, we wouldn't have seen Shredder at all. The Tall Walker fight from Battletoads, on the other hand, that was second-person.

Didn't they kinda do something second-person-ish in Siren? You could jack into the enemies' thoughts and see what they were seeing.

I believe that would make it third person again.

Fourth person doesn't exist, I don't think.
What would that even be? From the perspective of someone watching someone else watch it from a third person view?
