So I DLed the original Soul Calibur off of XBLA... and they cut out Weapons Master Mode. You also start with all the characters and costumes unlocked. And although they cut Weapons Master Mode, they kept in the useless art galleries. Fucking weak. Definitely not worth the 800 points to download.

Might as well just buy a DC and the original game then, huh?

Yeah, apparently. Or steal my brother's.

Oh shit, I hope he doesn't read this thread, lest he discover my evil plan.

I don't think it is as bad as you are making it out to be. Yes, they got rid of the mode that made single player worth playing for seemingly no good reason, but it is still SC and a legitimately fun multiplayer game, which I think was the point of making it available on XBLA. It caters more to the crowd who just want to sit down and play a few matches without having to go through anything to play with the characters they want. It might not have the depth that other games have, but if you have ten dollars and just want to play a few matches with a friend, it isn’t bad.

Well, everything (almost) was unlocked by earning money through the mission mode, so removing it effectively eliminated unlockables.

As I recall, the Dreamcast version started you with 10 out of 19 characters unlocked. 7 of the characters were unlocked by beating arcade mode with 7 basic characters of your choice. Edge Master was unlocked by beating arcade mode with everyone except Inferno.

Everything else (costumes, art, stages,) was unlocked through mission mode. Inferno was unlocked by beating Arcade Mode with Xinghua's 3rd Costume, which was one of the last things you unlocked in the mission mode. Why they'd remove the heart and soul of the 1P aspect of the game, especially when there's no added online play, is beyond me.

If you're going to take out the 1P aspects and play up the 2P aspect of the game, you need online play... and there is none.

Also, there's an acheivement for looking at all the art in art gallery. What the fuck is that? The acheivement SHOULD have been for unlocking all the art.

Achievements are so fucking bogus, you get half of them for doing intentionally retarded and unskillful things.

Apparently the game was released when MS was still making publishers stick to a size limit for XBLA, hence the cuts. Funny how MS stuck to their guns for that but had no problems ditching their pricing limits for Penny Arcade, Braid, and Castle Crashers.

I was never really a fan of online play. I would much rather play with someone in the same room as me. Still, it was a missed opportunity that would have widened the appeal.

As for the looking at art achievement, yeah, that’s pretty stupid.

I'm not a big fan of online play either, but if I'm paying $10 for a shallow game, I want to be guaranteed opponents 24/7
