Don't know if there was a thread already posted for this, I'm too lazy to check so if there is let's start a new one.
I have two problems that need fixing, anyone with knowledge on this would be appreciated.
1 - There is an EXTREME amount of lag whenever I'm in single player mode, maybe because I'm playing on a laptop or maybe because Minecraft sucks. I don't really want to download some shitty program that will make my computer "go faster" either as advertised on their website. It is extremely annoying having to wait ten minutes to move two inches.
2 - I can start a server on one computer, but cannot join nor create servers on the other computer, which makes multiplayer between friends quite homosexual. I always get different messages like "server timed out" "java.net.(Insert text that makes no sense here)" etc. Tried opening ports and turning firewall off, nothing seems to really work, I even tried different IPs to host from.
Note: I did NOT buy this game because I refuse to pay $20.00 for an early, buggy and shitty version of a to-be complete game made by a guy who barely updates it.
Aside from that post servers, tricks, mods, skins, etc.
Buzz.

I can vouch for the fact these IRC yahoos talk about Minecraft constantly.
Also, nice to see you back.

I've dabbled with MC and I can tell you this. Hit "f" to increase the fog (reducing the draw distance of the terrain) making gameplay smoother and faster.
Sure you can't see too far ahead, but that's how it is.

I have everything on the lowest settings, (fog is tiny, graphics are fast) and it works fine for about an hour of gameplay. When I build more and when I've discovered more of the map is when the lag rolls in. I also noticed when the game makes a day - night transition it lags a bit as well.

Yeah, with all these issues I say you should demand your money back. If some independent asshole working alone can't update this huge game more often and make it so runs on even the shittiest of computers without lag, then fuck him.

The only time I notice lag is when you discover huge portions of the map and/or blow up like 1500 TNT at once. Actually the second doesn't even cause lag it just crashes the game. Java apparently can't handle the load or something, but given that one person basically built this himself it is still pretty amazing.

10/10 would rage again.
Don't buy it then. Wait until it's complete.

I broke down and got this, it's more addictive than I expected; I have successfully dug out a cavern furnished with torches, a bench and an oven in which to spend the long, long nights hiding from the undead but this is like my third attempt. Earlier I was mauled by spiders and my cave was blown apart by creepers before skeletons found their way in and arrowed me to death.

Much more addictive than you would think. I want to try out a SMP server, but I don't want to leave behind all my structures and diamonds. Sweet diamonds.

After playing until 4 AM last night and the better part of today I can honestly say that digging a virtual mineshaft has never been so much fun. And I've only come across common elements so far; I'm working on a deep shaft but so far all I've found is iron and coal, is there a certain depth that other stuff starts showing up at or something?

Dig a staircase down to bedrock then go up about 10-12 levels. That is your diamond layer. If you hold F3 you should see your Y-coordinate at 12.62, this is the lowest you should dig, or you will dig under lava pools. I usually dig branch mines at 14.62, 2 levels higher. I think diamonds stop appearing at about level 20.
