Okay, this one had me really scratching my head as 400 miles in one day is a non-stop pace of almost 17 mph. The current record for one of the races he did is over 14 hours, and he isn't the record holder. I'm pretty sure he completed four 100-miles races that year, each in under 24 hours, and the person who wrote the obituary you saw is just bad at writing.
