I've always only had a passing interest in Left 4 Dead 2, but I recently discovered that the PC version has mods - more specifically, accurate and complete custom campaign re-creations of the first three Resident Evil games in the Left 4 Dead 2 engine. Cue 20+ hours of ravenously playing the campaigns game on different difficulty settings and with varying mutations.

A lot of smaller games, tbh--Stardew Valley (my "comfort food" game, in fact), Moonlighter, and Baba is You (one of the best puzzle games I've played in a long time.)

Overall, very chill. Which I super need right now.

Nothing is grabbing my attention, and I pretty much can only play Switch because my wife is always monopolizing the TV at night. Would love to fire up one of the other consoles that have games I might enjoy.

I need Nintendo to go ahead and drop Breath of the Wild 2.

I always wanted to get my hands on Starfox Zero but i never owned a Wii U.
It has a bad reputation but the footage i have seen looks pretty good to me...

I like it so far.
Gameplay wise it's closest to a Point and Click actually, wich surprised me a bit because the game is actually refered to as an "Anti-RPG", so i expected something in the vein of an RPG.
But the "Anti-RPG"-part refers more to the story and the themes the game revovles around.

The atmosphere, the whole world and characters are really interesting and well done, lots of quirky, funny and surprisingly deep characters.
It's really a "one of kind" game, so it's hard to do it justice by describing it but i see it in the tradition of games like Earthbound or Undertale.

What throws me a bit off is that it's not a very gameplay heavy game.
There isn't much going on, on that front, you run around and try to solve a puzzle to proceed to the next place, basically.
Then there is that pseudo leveling mechanic wich revovles around "Love", if you help people or save monsters you get "Love" wich lets you run around longer without needing to rest inbetween.

I want to finish it but, i have to kinda remind myself to pick it up and play it because the gameplay isn't really that exciting.
I like everything else though.

I heard about it and i have a soft spot for indie games like that already.
Just a matter of time that i will get it for the Switch.

Been playing Mario 35. I am pretty obsessed with it tbh.
Also tried a bit of Genshin Impact on PS4. Seems alright so far.

I have fallen deeply, deeply head over heels for Red Dead Redemption 2. I know I'm super late to the party, but goddamn if it isn't maybe the best game I've ever played. Arthur Morgan might be my favorite video game protagonist of all time--and in my top five fictional characters, period. Such an amazing game.

I wish I could get on the Hades hype train. I'm just so not a fan of roguelikes :/ Maybe I'll nab it when it goes on stupid low sale.

From what i heard it's more a rogue-lite, and lots of progress is actually kept after death.
I usually avoid the genre too, but i had the impression (from the review i saw) that Hades isn't a typical rogue-like.

Maybe LeshLush can add some more context to that?

It's a very interesting game, in that it the game expects you to die a lot. Some aspects of the narrative can only be unlocked by dying. Completing a run also just unlocks more narrative that can be pushed farther, both by continuing to complete runs, and by dying more. There's also certain kinds of currency that you keep even after death, so some runs, you're not even trying to win -- you're optimizing towards acquiring resources so you can buy permanent upgrades to have an easier time trying to win in future runs.

This gives the game kind of a chill-out feel, like grinding to level up your pokemon. You don't necessarily care if you die. And because each weapon is unique, and the different boons you can acquire are all very different and combine with each other or with weapons in unique ways, each run feels very unique. So in some ways, the on-the-fly build changes and randomized unlocks give it kind of the same flavor as Diablo. But with much better content.

But if you're playing to try to win, it can feel very intense, so there's still stakes.

I've been playing Mario Party again. Completed all the mini games on Mini Game Island, won some coins in Mini Game Stadium, won Mario's board with all normal CPUs earning 6 stars. There are too many mini games that require spinning the analog stick too much, and some of the game is based on chance, but this game is fun. I'm sure the sequels will be better.

You have done right not getting on the hype train, unlike myself :/

It really is your typical roguelike and i really can't stand the genre for the life of me.
Pretty much wasted 25$ to find that out.

Funny thing is i would love this game if it was a RPG like Diablo or even a Metroidvania, because stylistically and gameplay-wise its really good.

I don't even get why people like roguelikes in the first place.
I mean from a developers standpoint i get it.
You need to program only a third of the game, if its integral to the gaming experience that the areas are designed purposefully that you die 3 times before any regular gamer would reach the end.
I think it's one of the main-reasons why many small indie developers hop on the roguelike train.
If you sell consumers that "dying" is part of the fun and that i has to happen, it's just part of the experience, you can get away with shenanigans like that.

I mean, good games like Dark Souls kinda work with that "philosophy" too, but it's different because it gives you way more control about your character and many different ways to approach a problem.
Also it slowly teaches you the "do's and don'ts" of how to play it.
And it has checkpoints in the form of bonfires wich is very important.
Basically the challenge is fair and of reasonable nature.

As a gamer, Hades just gives me flashbacks from old NES games that basically made you play through a brick hard stage without any checkpoints, while setting you against unfair challenges through-out.

If the bar is purposely set too high to reach it, i don't feel like my time and effort gets treated with respect.

To me, roguelike is the most backwards genre out there and Hades will surely be my last encounter with it.

Silent Hill series (Team Silent only), because the third game is now the same age as its protagonist. Currently on the fourth.

If only Konami didn't start down that dark path in the late '00s (September 1, 2006 to December 31, 2009)...

Incidentally, I am older now than Harry Mason was at the time of the first game.

Been playing Metroid Prime for the first time since it came out. It was a game I rented, but never owned, so I never beat it.

I'm about a third of the way done and really enjoying it. I remember nothing of my first time playing it twenty years ago, so the whole thing feels fresh and new. Wish their was a way to sidestep/strafe.
