My dad is a big knife collector and also briefly collected swords. I just got into collecting knives and I'll show my first two outlandish knives to the forum.

I don't have anything else that's pretty much cosmetic. The neck knives aren't very useful, but the Biohazard thing looks like it could be pretty effective if I could figure out how it's used.

Oh. My God. Did you come to the right person.

YES I collect knives! And swords. I adore them. Guns are cool, but I see them more as tools. Knives and swords can truly be beautiful.

The highlights of my collection are a full-tang, battle-ready katana, a beautiful replica of Sting (bought as an almost-gag gift, since I'm just about Hobbit sized myself lol), a lovely Buck bowie knife and my trusty old Kabar (the ultimate fusion of aesthetic with function, imho.)

I LOVE that Biohazard knife. Its so creative, looks great, and you're right: it does look like a throwing star almost. What else have you got?

Nothing else that isn't a tool. I just bought these pretty recently.

That's cool. I really like the neck knives as well. Do you know if it would actually be legal to carry something like that where you live?

I have a knuckles/batarang type thing my friend gave me years ago just called "Bat Return." It's like a batarang with sharpened wing edges and finger holes along it so it can be held brass-knuckles style. Except that the tail of the bat digs into your palm rather painfully if you do wield it thusly.

I do want a "real" sword though. And by "real" I mean fake but cool looking.

The biohazard knife, taken apart, looks like batarangs.

Just about. All you'd have to do is make little ears for them, and you'd be set.

Do they have to be bat ears? I think they'd be cute with bunny ears.

I have a few swords, one that's pretty solidly made but any dealer I take it to can't identify what it is. (It's got a little more curvature then a katana, and the handle bends the opposite direction and it's blade is pretty wide)

I did not know that! Or at least I don't remember seeing batarangs without the ears. More than willing to take your word on that though.

Jeebus, bunny ears would be awesome. Then they could become Usa's signature weapon.

I used to have a huge collection of swords and knives until someone decided to break into my storage and steal anything I had that was worth anything... It was upsetting when I went to move and found all the swords gone.

Okay, I am reviving this thread to ask a question no one may have an answer to, but I'm going to give it a shot anyway...

There are three swords that I really, really want that are currently missing from my collection: Anduril (That Was Narsil), from LoTR (which I just purchased but has not yet arrived), Glamdring (also LoTR) and Connor MacLeod's katana. This post is concerned with the latter.

So far I've found two brands of 'official' katanas that I'm torn between:

1) United Cutlery model. I know the company, and like the products of theirs that I've seen. It goes for 180 bucks:

http://www.alteregocomics.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=6214

2) the super-duper-official-w/ cert of authenticity model they sold on the official highlander website before it died. Goes for $319:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310043342287&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I don't suppose anyone has any particular insight about which might be better (or specifically if the uber-official version is worth the extra money.) I wish there were some good shots of his sword from the film so I could compare (especially the saya), but I haven't been able to find any.

Thoughts?

Id go with the cheaper one, do you really want to pay extra for a little piece of paper that says it's official?

^ I wouldn't if it was just the paper, but I question what the difference in materials/worksmanship might be, especially on the handle (which is a damn intricate piece of work.) The official ones are made in Spain by the actual guy who made them for the movie, which is why you pay a premium. I'm just trying to figure out what kind of a knock in quality I get by going cheap. The pics don't really help, and my emails to both parties have yet to be returned. Sigh.

There is a reason why the cheap one doesn't give you a zoom on the handle. You already know the answer to this question, your just hoping you can save a $150.

You get what you pay for.

God damn you and your logic, Rydog...

Damn you.

Okay, no, seriously, yeah you're right, which is exactly why I'm leaning towards the official one. Barring me hearing in the next month or so that someone actually bought the UC version and is unbelievably happy with it, I'm pretty sure that's the way I'll be going.

I collect them. One time I was working as an officer at the state fair and I bought a shit load of swords and knives and had no where to put them. I put the three swords under my belt and the knives in my pocket. I intended to put them in the car right after I bought them, but I had them on my person a lot longer than that. Nobody fucked with me. How do you deal with a cop that has three swords attached to his belt. They should be standard issue. Swords command more respect than guns.

SoldierHawk I can speak to the official Highlander sword...Looks wise it is hands down better than the alternative, but I can tell you right now that's all you are getting, it's a typical half tang and this sword in particular is known for breaking (massive stress fractures from falls etc) as the handles are not exactly durable.

Something about that other sword looks like a cheap knockoff, (just guessing but there most likely will be a quality problem, whether it be in the steel,or basic construction of the sword and scabbard). If you have to have a highlander display sword out of the two go with the official, for the same money though you get get a pretty decent Functional / Display sword though. Either way I don't think you will feel like you misspent your money.

I found a better pic of the cheaper sword and I can with 100% certainty tell you it is a cheap knockoff the overall look and the pin placement is all wrong.

My father-in-law collects all kinds of swords and knives. I had two swords, my Marine Corps sabers (1 for display and one for use.) I gave him my display sword a while back. I also gave him my KA-BAR knife, got my other one in supply. I don't like swords or knives, or even guns. I guess the same reason why I don't like FPS games, they just remind me too much of work.
