AAAARGH.

Filed under: Stuff — Syd Lexia @ 1:40 pm

I had hoped to have a new article up by tonight, but that probably won’t happen now. I had jury duty today and I got stuck on a fucking jury for a trial that doesn’t start until Monday and is expected to last until at least Tuesday. The worst part is that it’s some sort of bullshit civil case, the kind that Judge Wapner used to resolve in like 15 minutes. Hey, maybe Judge Wapner can get me out this…

Dammit, I guess not. In any case, I don’t feel much like writing anything now because I have the cloud of jury duty hanging over my head. It may be my civic duty, but it’s also wicked fucking gay. Even worse, it prevents me from playing The New Super Mario Brothers.

I heard if you are very (purposefully) biased for/against some one during your interview (IF you got one), you won’t get picked. Just a tip for the future.

That is true. For some reason though, the defendant and plaintiff weren’t in court today, just their lawyers. Next time, I’m all over the bias thing. I’ll be like “I don’t take women lawyers seriously” or “That guy looks like my aunt” or something like that.

Actually, stupidity is one thing they look for. That’s why certain people (like teachers) are automatically excluded from jury duty.

Your best chance would probably be along the lines of:
“So, what do you think of the defendant?”
“I think he’s a mother****ing ****er who should go skull**** his sister! I HATE HIS PEOPLE!”

    Or something like that.

In Massachusetts, no one is automatically excluded from jury duty. Everyone, even lawyers and judges is called. Counsel will strike usually strike anyone they feel is too smart, but they still have to report. But any sort of bias will get you off the case. The case I’m on involves a car accident. The guy in car who was hit is suing the woman for his medical costs, but she claims that he wasn’t injured in the accident. If I had said that I believe women to be genetically inferior drivers to men, I probably would have gotten taken of the case. Oh well, live and learn. You can also get taken off a case if it’s a hardship for you. If I had been really sneaky, I could have gone onto Ticketmaster and looked up concerts that were taking place on Monday. Then I could have claimed I had nonrefundable tickets to one of them. That also would have gotten me off.

Oh, and I’m not supposed to discuss the details of the case. Whoops.

Well, all we have to hope for now is that the judge is looking for preteen porn and finds this site.

    :what:

The judge actually looks kinda like Secretary of Defense Heller.

In any case, good luck, I hear jury duty is awful.

Did you just not bring your DS with you? Because that would be awesome — playing New Super Mario Bros. during the trial.

I don’t think the judge would cotton to that, even if I was playing Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.
