Angle released
Aug. 25, 2006

Due to personal issues, Kurt Angle has been granted an early release from his contract. WWE looks forward to establishing a new relationship with Kurt in the near future.

The only Olympic gold medalist in WWE history, Kurt Angle arrived in 1999 and quickly became one of the most decorated champions in sports-entertainment history. "The Wrestling Machine" is not only a six-time World Champion, but also held the Intercontinental Championship and WWE Tag Team Championship; he also won the 2000 King of the Ring tournament. Recently joining ECW, Angle’s unmatched intensity was rivaled only by his technical and athletic in-ring prowess.

I moved it to TV, since most people primarily watch WWE via television.

Anyway, that's a huge loss. Angle was one of the best guys they had. They've already lost Christian and Jericho over the last year or so too. This is weak. Oh well, at least they've still got Carlito and Flair.

the wwF has really lost its charm over the years. probably around the time they started hiring soap opera rejects to write the show.

That sucks ass. Angle's always been one of my favorites. My roommate was ready to kill me when he took the belt off the Rock in 2000.

angle was falling apart. he couldnt even wrestle a match without a handful of painkillers. he was a workaholic and his family life suffered for it. the man was supposed to quit wrestling after wrestlemania XIX.

ECW is fucked though.

ECW has been fucked from the start. McMahon refuses to leave it alone and just let it be ECW. No, instead we get toned down violence and we have to see at least one wrestler from RAW or Smackdown on there every week. Fuck that. I don't want to see Big Show vs. Flair, they could have done that on RAW if they had wanted. I want to Al Snow vs. Balls Mahoney, or Sandman vs. RVD. Give me those matches dammit.

Jericho's gone? Damn.

They didn't know what to do with him anyway. The first mistake was changing his lion tamer into some sort of elevated boston crab. I remeber when the move consisted of jericho with his right knee in the guy's back instead of each leg on each side of the guy...

What's the big deal? They'll just hire some other muscle-bound idiot and script a few dozen belt wins for him until people like him. No offense to wrestling fans, I know there's a lot of them here, but I just don't understand the appeal of modern wrestling. I was never really into wrestling to begin with, but I can at least appreciate the old WWF days because they had characters who were interesting. These days, it all seems to about "listen to this generic guy yell at another generic guy for three hours before they pretend to hit each other for ten minutes" or "watch these two chicks pull rip-away clothing off each other because we know you'll watch anything with tits." I mean, I watched some wrestling for the first time in a long while a few weeks back and the high point of the night was Rick Flair beating up a book (which was hilarious, but not quite what they were going for I don't think.)

It kind of was. Ric Flair is fun to watch for three reasons:
1. If you hit him two or three times, he'll start bleeding like nobody's business (aka cut his forehead with a razor while he's on the ground)
2. He yells "WOO!" and does his patented chops
3. He's batshit crazy

And I suppose also because he's one of the all-time greats and his presence harkens the mind back to a simpler time when wrestling was a lot more fun to watch.

Angle was different from just about everybody else they have because he was actually entertaining. There are alot of generic guys running around now so I get what your saying. Too bad you didn't see Flair towards the end of WCW, he would beat inanimate object on an almost weekly basis lol.

That's why I stopped watching five years ago or so Black Zarak. Also because the belts change hands waaaaay too often. It just gets ridiculous when one guy holds one belt five or ten different times within a year. I realize people like Hogan and Andre held them for too long in the 80s, but now it's way too short. They need to find a happy medium.

Where have you been for a year? He announced his departure from the WWE on August 25, 2005 ---> and he hasn't been back since.

I love Chris, he's extremely talented in so many areas --- he's a great wrestler, comedian, and Fozzy is even pretty good (even @ live shows!) I saw Fozzy on February 22nd 2003 in Montreal QC - and the following day went to No Way Out @ the Bell Centre! It was the most amazing trip! We even got to see Edge in a room just upstairs from the concert - and he looked perfectly healthy even if the WWE had a story that he had injured his neck... lol... and that was Sylvain Grenier's big entrance as a ring announcer... I said that night at the PPV that he was gonna be a wrestler - the following RAW he was in fact wrestling!

Ah the memories...

Kurt Angle recently joined TNA, the wrestling revolution which shall someday overthrow the WWE.

Revolution huh? I do recall a sociological theory that states that in order for a revolution to occur, a group needs MOBILITY - they need $$$ to survive? Confused Not so sure TNA will ever make a dent in Mr. McMahon's wallet Sad

That being said Arrow TNA ROCKS!
---> with the exception of a choice few: Christy Hemme (cracked-out Troll), Gail Kim (the one her mother should have swallowed), Scott Steiner & Kevin Nash (if drugs are to blame for Eddy Guerrerro's death HOW can they still be alive? they've even got old age working against them), and Jeff Jarrett (for making himself the champion - which is only 1 degree worse than HHH screwing the owner's daughter)! Twisted Evil

Haven't watched wrestling in five years. I watch it for a few minutes at a time for a laugh sometimes now when I'm flipping through the channels.

I really liked Jericho. I was even at his WWF debut at the Rosement Horizon in Chicago many years ago. That was an exciting night.

Sorry for the thread bump, but I couldn't help thinking that maybe this whole Angle getting fired thing is work.

Hear me out. Remember when Shane and Stephanie were doing the WCW/ECW Invasion of WWE? Kurt jumped ship and joined the Alliance, only to betray them at Survivor Series, garnering the win for team WWE. Could this be Deja Vu all over again?
