It has been on the back burner for a bit, but I have been working on a global SydLexia.com search engine based on Google's CSE offering.

I need your help to test it out.

Here is the URL to test it out:
http://karatekid.sydlexia.com/search

Yes there are advertisements. No there is nothing I can do about that (for now). Right now no one makes any money other than Google. If I find a way to allow Syd to make profit, hell, why not, I'll do it. But I am not making money from this. Technically Syd runs a profitless institution, but I am not sure if that counts as a non-profit. Until I can verify this, I cannot switch the ads off.

In any case, please share your feedback here.

Seems like it works pretty well, is the search bar going to be on the main page, your page, the forums page, all of them? Confused

What's to test? It works great. No problem that I can see.

And it has a much more visually appealing color scheme than Google. Fuck you Google the internet is not made of paper! Mad

The reason to test is because sometimes little bugs show up.

And I like feedback so that I can make things as best as possible.

Would you guys like to see any special labels at the top? Like pre-canned searches that are used regularly?

Meh, I would think that would be more distracting and/or annoying than useful. I mean, most searches are only a couple words, and its not hard to type them in. If you REALLY need a search page THAT BADLY all the time, that's what bookmarks are for. I vote no.

you can probably do 'top 10 searches for the month' or something to that effect. but i dont feel that would be necessary.

Or you can expand this into a NWSE or something.

I was thinking, does this mean if I enter random stuff it will come up in that database?

Are you trying to exclude certain parts of the site? When I search for "Transformers" I only get two pages of results, yet when I do the same in Google I get a lot more and considering how often we talk about the topic here, that's what I'd expect. There are almost no forum hits in your custom search, but they're not completely absent either, which seems peculiar.

At this time, no.

In the future?

Maybe.

Edit:
I was responding to this :

Well, then why are there fewer results compared to what I get when using Google directly?

I wasn't responding to you with my previous reply (sorry about that).

I am looking into this right now to see what the hangup is.

Tyop, I changed the way that it does the site includes.

It may take a day to filter new results though.

I'll keep an eye on it and see what I can figure out.

So much for "absurd franchise porn that isn't erin esurance but for some reason I can't remember" ending up in the next FWSE.
