Pretty sure he said no secondary accounts, "Mr. Lazer". |
I need proof of this.

Even if it wasn't a secondary account, the account has 6 total posts, and 2 are in this thread. That's the same as a bye for whoever gets paired against him.

I don't want to be a dick about this. Really. I mean, it's only a contest.
But if I don't set and follow rules, things get nuts. Ask Douche about this one and his experience with the S/NES challenges. I don't want this to fall apart into a fiasco like those "of the year" polls.

Maybe you should set a minimum post count for entry. I'd say a solid couple hundred posts would make you a known pressence....maybe.

You ridiculous humans and your silly rules will be no match for me.
I sense that Douche is afraid and wants to deny me the opportunity to educate him and his kind. A “presence requirement” is nothing more than a rock to hide under.
Each of my posts is so amazing and rates at the pinnacle of digital communication. They clearly count as the equivalent of a hundred well crafted posts by a pathetic human.
Fear me Douche. Fear me.

...I don't know.
I don't want to exclude new people, and I don't want to exclude certain people who may not have much of a forum presence but have made themselves known in other way (your 200 post limit, for example, would exclude Fernin and Fred, who have a pretty strong chat room presence). I also don't like the idea that post count actually means anything.
...I just had an idea, though. Instead of choosing brackets completely at random, I could "seed" them by post count. This could lead to some post-whoring and make for some pretty uninteresting opening matches, but it would make it more like the March Madness thing
Comments on this? I'll only do it if the reaction is highly favorable.
EDIT: If I do seed by post count, I see little reason to deny alternate accounts access. We can discuss this too.

Anyone who wants to participate should be able to. Also, I have no opinion about how the rounds should be seeded. Post count vs Random vs any other method... whatever.
I'm just in it for a good time.

200 was just an example, but I see your point. Seeding based on post count could lead to some pretty epic battles. Like Syd vs <insert random new guy>. Complete lambasting I would hope.

Maybe you can do the brackets & seeding so that the matchups end up with people with comparable post counts? You could have one side of the brackets have veterans in it, and another with more recent additions, and have first round matches that are between people with very close post counts.

This is the opposite of how it normally works, because this way the epic battles will all be at the beginning, whereas the other way the battles would be more epic at the end.

I like Vets vs. Vets and Newbies vs. Newbies.
On that note, I can't believe I've been here almost two and a half years!

Just so you know, I did a test seeding, by post count, and it works out pretty well. There's only 2 or 3 matches I would consider "runaways", and most of them would be pretty fun.
...I really didn't like who my round 1 opponent would be, though. :/

...Considering that Fred and I have the least and second least posts of the folks in the contest so far, I can't say I enjoy the idea of one of us going up against Syd in the first round. Here's hoping someone with even less posts than either of us joins in!
Having the veterans facing the veterans and the new guys facing the new guys would lead to a final round of a veteran versus a new, or at least relatively, new guy, so that wouldn't be a very good system to go with. As it is, this system seems to be the most fair to the middle seed group, with the low end seeds being more likely to be crushed by the veterans they are paired up with.

I could do a "swiss paring" where #1 faces #2, #3 faces #4, and so on, but I don't really like that.
I don't really want to set it up as "veteran vs veteran" and "newbie vs newbie" because, well, how do you define that? I'd rather do it by something well-defined (post count), or just flat-out randomly.

I meant vet vs. vet via post count, but then I remembered M3GA MAN's 500 post debacle.
I say random. But nobody can bitch then.

That's ordered swiss, Usa. Swiss is normally random and not single elimination like this will be.
I still really like the use of post count, but if you're going to do it, Usa, take the post counts NOW (Which it seems like you did since you sampled the pairings) so that people don't start spamming the forums to create specific matches. If you did it by post count and there were only 2-3 runaways out of 16 matches, I'd say that's pretty damned good.

You are terribly misguided in this case, Mr. Rifle.

The contest bracket isn't closed, though, Jeebus, it's open until Saturday night. More people could enter between now and then and throw off the pairings by post count.

I deleted the parings already. :/ But I can re-do them easily.
It isn't a good idea to take post counts now, because the registration is still open. I will take them when it closes. I didn't notice too many people who could really affect their seed meaningfully with spam anyways (two and you're one of them) , and there's only one person in the contest I would expect to try it anyways.
