I just bought this issue for the novelty of it. But is putting Obama in an issue of Spider-Man really necessary?

But then again, I'm biased. Wink

I just think it is kind of silly. I really only bought it for the novelty and that it will be a collector's item eventually.

I doubt it's going to be a collector's item. They sold out three printings of that issue and if you bought it just now you probably have one from the fourth. That's not going to be worth much.

I have the yellow copy. I saw on Midtown Comics the third and forth printings have a different background color.

I thought they did stuff like this back in the day with internationally famous people. I remember seeing a Superman comic once with Hitler on the cover (not that I'm comparing Obama and Hitler).

I can barely make it out, but thanks to the miracle of glasses I can confeidently (...mostly...) say that I think he's saying, "hey, if YOU get to be on my cover, then *I* get to be on the dollar bill!"

...which ultimately makes no sense since Obama isn't ON the dollar bill, but its Spidy so I'll give him a pass. Wink

You're pretty much right SoldierHawk. Spider-Man is saying:

"Hey, if you get to be on my cover, Can I be on the dollar bill?"

I actually agree with DD. We need like, a single year's run of bills with depictions of superheroes on them. That'd be fucking cool.

Well there's like a billion different comics with Obama's stupid face on the cover at this point, so just walk into any comic book store and take your pic.

What I really want to see is Obama (who is apparently quite the comic book nut himself) go on Stephen Colbert to claim that special Colbert-autographed comic book he set aside for him.

Yeah, allegedly Obama likes comics and that's why they're running with it so much. Of course, his liking comics doesn't really help the industry in any way, and it actually hurts it cause his fucking face is everywhere.

Can you blame them really, they are trying to make a buck off of someone's popularity or the perception of his popularity, whatever your political views. All in all I think it is stupid, I thought the same thing when they did those special issues on 9/11. the only difference is maybe the 9/11 comic helped the kids understand what was going on somewhat. Still I think it's a bad trend to fall into, does anyone even remember if any popular comics ever referenced the JFK assassination around the time it happened for example? I could be wrong but I don't think they did, it's just tacky as hell to do stuff like that.

Don't forget there was a comic where JFK and Kruschev were arguing, Superman comes by and smacks JFK...then he turns towards Kruschev and smacks him as well.
