I'm going to be sending you my new best time soon. I seem to always be busy on the weekends so tend to not play as much. I think you're going to have a lot of times that are close to each other in the 5 minute range this round.

I thought it was interesting. Clever and a little wacky.
I like the way that there wasn't one single "best" strategy. I also like how there was really nothing to compare it too, everyone had to come up with something themselves for the most part.
I'm noticing a difference in how people are acting between this challenge and the TMNT one. Here, people didn't seem inclined to give up too much help or advice...probably because they wanted to keep their strategies secret. For TMNT, there's only really one way to do it, strategy isn't too much of an issue, so people seem more inclined to share their runs or give hints. I'm not sure which is better. Just sayin' is all.

But...you said you'd still respect me in the morning. *sniff*
Okay, managed to get it closer to 5:20, and it would have been better if not for a hurr-durr moment. That's enough of this. I'm sending it in.
I really do like this game, but I'm just no good at speedrunning it. I'm no good with Donny unless it's on a boss. I usually get through this game with Leo or Raph. Mike is good for absolutely nothing.

This one definitely consumed a lot more of my time. More luck is needed for a great run than the TMNT challenge. But hell, it's Zelda.

What? Mike useless? I don't think so. He's pretty useful under the water, but yes he sucks the big one everywhere else.

So I did a couple more runs this morning, and got times of 6:44 and 6:33.

Since this challenge is officially in the books, anyone feel like expressing your "Springer" final thoughts about the challenge? Kind of like an exit poll... |
Perhaps this wasn't the best "intro" challenge. I would rate the overall task as difficult. Not impossible, but certainly lengthy for those who aren't insanely good at gaming.
The TMNT one was somewhat more appropriate for an opening challenge.

My attention span can't really handle the repetition required for speed runs. I'm in it, then about a minute later I'm thinking about something else and I'm dead.
Still, I was able to get one finished run somewhere between 14-15 minutes. Yay me!
We'll see how I do on the non-timed challenges.

I'm not gonna throw Syd under the bus...wait...yes I am...It was all his fault! He decided it I had no control. Blame Syd for all your frustrations. If anything anyone who attempted the challenge is now atleast somewhat better at the game.

Just making sure TMNT is one game I didn't think I'd be playing--yet somehow managed to download the ROM for it by myself... eh, I'm a glutton for punishment.

So the last good run I did only improved my previous best by a few seconds. If you're getting frustrated you can always stand in front of the steamroller and let it plow over all your turtles...

I've made peace with the bomb level. I can do it much quicker and um, actually finish it consistently, now that I'm older. So.... I was still expecting an easier game

Did another successful run a few minutes ago. Cut my time from 6:33 to 6:27. Six seconds makes a difference.

Hoorayz! I finally completed the challenge! Amazingly enough, I used only Donny(like that would be hard to believe) all the way up to the swimmin level. I have a feeling I can do better, but at least I finally got a video complete for once!
Problem is, my file won't convert to AVI(corrupt file, complains my lappy)! This is odd, since I did a test video with LoZ(not related to first challenge) and it worked just fine. Eh, better go over to that thread that talks about this stuff.

That where it becomes fun again though I do it just because I happen to be somewhere a level is. Swing by get the Spellbook from level 8, head to level 3... Go fetch the flute so I can burn down the forest by getting the red candle in level 7. Go to 4, get the Stepladder so I can get a few more heart containers, get the raft, get a few more, head to level 1.

My time improvement was only 3 seconds, but it was an important 3 seconds.

Ah, DANGIT! I know what I did wrong, and I had to get rid of the file entirely. Now I gotta do the fucking thing all over again.

You're time will be better though. I got a pretty good time to spite my computer after it crashed on me on a run that, at that moment, I was not hit.

Indeed, I did do much better and got it recorded properly. Unfortunately, I still keep getting a "corrupted file" message! I don't get it, nestopia worked just fine the very first time I recorded! What's the deal?
EDIT: DAMN IT ALL! Now my movie file won't even come up, as in I can't play it or anything!! I had to throw it away again! PLEASE help, someone! I'm getting sick of not sending in movies!

Just send your emulator's record file to Douche. He can convert it himself much easier.
