I'm going to be doing this tomorrow before I come to work, hopefully they will work.

The closest we came to a tie was when scam jumped one little platform higher than SSNintendo.
When you say one platform higher, do you mean he got past the room that I died in?
Sorry meant Scam and McScurvy.

Eh, I'm just not feeling it this week. I have a run that's the bare minimum of effort, and I might cut it by a coin or two, but I'm just not that into Super Mario Bros.
I'm reeeeeeally curious how to get by some of these coins, though.
So, anyone else fighting the instinct to nail the first coin right by the start of the game?

I was. I actually have to fight the instinct to grab coins. The way you usually play is that you put the coins on your path, you've got to unlearn that for this Challenge.
ya ive finally gotten over the mental barrier of wanting to get coins and have my route dialed in. Its really really hard though i may have to settle for getting a few more than planed which may or my not be 0.

This is my submission. I know we aren't allowed to post strategies or methods. But trust me.
You won't find any here.
I can't beat the game, so you have nothing to worry about. The only thing this is, is proof that I gave it a try.

Okay, since I hear that a lot of participants haven't even submitted a video, I docinsano, vow for the rest of the competition to submit a video for the remaining rounds, no matter how shitty I did.
Oh yeah, Douche, what's the new protocol for submitting videos now? Is YouTube okay? And I thought I read something about you need a copy of the game or something? Just need to know to clear some things up. Time to do the challenge.
If your submitting a video file which I would prefer, then I would also like a copy of the file you used. I had a different copy for the last one and it gave me errors when I tried to convert them. If you guys are using something other than Virtua Nes then I would prefer you load it up on youtube.

Done. It isn't the best I know, but I completed the challenge. I died a few times though. My video, like GPFontaine's, reveals no strategies or special techniques, just plain old gameplay, and I am certain that it can be done better. So here it is:

Way to be man!
I have gotten my ass kicked on every challenge, but its worth it just to try.

Um, can you still join? I'll be using Nestopia with ScreenCapture. The demo, though, so be prepared to see a big, fucking, ugly "DEMO VERSION" caption right in the middle of the screen.
I now bestow upon you the title of Most Awesome Person.

Or you could just download Virtua Nes, and solve all the problems.

Thanks to whoever updated that.

The only problem is, I'm on a Mac. There isn't a good screencasting program AFAIK.

I've been busy both today and yesterday(my birthday) so haven't had a lot of time to play SMB1 recently. I did figure out how to not grab as many coins in 8-1, however, any death in the level cancels it out since you have to get them again
As usual 8-1 is kicking my ass. Whoever of you actually ended up good at this level... lucky bastards! I guess we all have to have levels we're bad at, I just wish mine was something like 7-2 or 5-4, not the important levels
