So I saw The Brothers Grimm last night and I decided to start a thread about it. I don't know I can possibly say about it other than it was great. Either you like Terry Gilliam's or you don't, and if you do, this probably won't let you down. It's not quite as good as Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas or Brazil, but it's awesome nonetheless.

Finally, someone else who likes the movie. I just caught it today. Yeah, it's no Brazil, but this movie shouldn't be. There's no real social commentary made in this film, it's just a FUN MOVIE in the vein of Gilliam's Time Bandits and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.

Alas, the movie will not make any money due to "The Law of 1941" which states: The mass public doesn't like to see loud, choatic movies. Unfortunately, this film is one. Three people left while I was watching it. I was saddened. Sad

See, that pisses me off. If I pay $10 for a movie, it would have to pretty horrible for me to walk out. In fact, I can tell you exactly how bad it would to be. It would have to be worse than Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, a film which I fell asleep during but did not walk out. The Brothers Grimm is nowhere near that bad. I can see how people who aren't familiar with Gilliam might find it mediocre, but I can't fathom how anyone could be so disinterested with the movie that they'd just walk out. The audience I saw with it definitely seemed to enjoy it. No one walked out during it, that's for damn sure. Out of all his films, it probably most reminded me out of The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.

Actually, at this theater tickets are $3 for the first showing of the day. That means only $9 were wasted. I think they left not because it was boring or something, but because they found it objectable. Some parents claim this is the worst movie to bring your kids too. I'm not surprised. Parents are used to taking their kids to see Spider-Man or something equally childish. There's very few PG-13 films that are really raw these days (when I say raw, I mean something really dark and/or real [dark=Batman Returns, Edward Scissorhands; real=Crazy/Beautiful]). Grimm is being called "gory". Honestly, aside from the rather violent ending, I didn't think there was all that much gore. Far from The Killer or something.

I've fallen asleep during some odd ones... Bulletproof Monk I fell asleep for the whole finale. Blade III was another movie I passed out during, this time just for the last fight of the finale.

I happened to find Final Fantasy much more bearable than Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, a movie that gives "slow" new meaning. I was watching that again just now and even the action is fairly weak. The characters are also surprisingly straight forward. Yes, it is pretty, but these "great" movies need to be more than pretty cardboard... Chow Yun still kicks ass pretty hard though...

though final fantasy: the spirits within lacks a really good plot,or any involvment with any FF game, its one of the best graphical movies ive ever seen for sure, and i ended up buying it when it was released on dvd.

I walked out of Black Sheep when Chris Farley shits his pants in the cabin. And speaking of that, I also walked out of Cabin Boy. Both were fucking terrible and I'm actually dumber for seeing the parts of that movie I could actually stand.

Then there are movies I should have walked out of Like Urban Legend and Joe Dirt. David Spade owes me several movie passes for the crap I've had to watch on the big screen.

Did you at least see that muffin-thingy? Cause that was the most awesome part of the movie... oh, and the snow monster!

Yeah, about that. That's like saying the best part about the Holocaust is that Hitler only killed 6 million Jews. With a tragedy of that magnitude, there is no good part.

No, the best part of the Holocaust was bad Max Fleischer Superman cartoons, D-Day themed games and movies, and Hitler jokes for years to come. While a terrible event, we still got Neo-Nazi villains in movies... like Hellboy!

I saw this one Sunday and actually fell asleep in the middle (right when the kid was getting swallowed by the horse) for about three minutes. However, don't take that as a reflection of the film. I actually thought it was pretty good. I just hadn't been sleeping at ALL lately and once the house lights went down, BAM! I was instantly sleepy. I hope to see it again when I'm not struggling to maintain consciousness. Also (and Showcase Cinemas patrons will know what I mean), am I the only one who wishes Charlie Sheen would curl up and die? I probably would've been a lot less tired if the previews and movie started and I didn't have to sit through the cast of "Three And A Half Men" telling me that "Charlie, you can't smoke in here!".

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and I'll leave it at that. As for walking out of a movie, aside from having to take a leak really bad, I'm not sure that I have it in me, though most TRULY bad movies I didn't pay for myself. Urban Legend should have been walked out of, and Matrix Reloaded put a blemish on my soul to the extent where I refused to pay for Matrix Revolutions, and when my friend bought me a ticket I was able to sit through the entire movie only because I had an "if I take this movie about as seriously as Army of Darkness, then maybe I can enjoy it". Dude, Where's My Car? was another one of those freebies (tickets bought with gift certificates), and if my expectations weren't so low then I might not have enjoyed it as much as I did...which wasn't much.

Oh, and don't misunderstand me, cause Army of Darkness is the shit.

#edit: If I could choose any one movie to walk out of whether I've seen it in theatres or not, it would be Ichi the Killer. If you've seen it, you know what I mean.

Laughing Oh yeah!

I think the movie I regret paying for the most was "Sweet Home Alabama". I just wanted to be accepted by a bunch of people. After the movie I decided it just wasn't worth it.
