As if it wasn't hard enough being an American soldier, our brave fighting men are having their MySpace and YouTube access taken from them. The popular sites are now verboten on official military machines.

"This recreational traffic impacts our official DoD network and bandwidth ability, while posing a significant operational security challenge," General BB Bell, the US Forces Korea commander said in a memo.

Members of the military can still access the sites on their own computers and networks - but defence department computers and networks are the only ones available to many soldiers and sailors in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The MySpace one is especially unfortunate because MySpace is a great way for soldiers to stay in touch with friends and family. By posting a MySpace blog or bulletin, they could quickly update everyone they care about on how things are going.

Syd makes a good point but it's not as if they military is doing this for no reason whatsoever. They bring up valid points as to why MySpeace will be blocked.

Yeah, I had a buddy in the Marines in Iraq who would update us on how he was doing through Myspace. He's going back too, guess it's snailmail from now on...

Aye, MySpace was how I was keeping touch on those overseas... But I guess I understand the need for it... Confused

Edit: At least two friends of mine still have access to MySpace.
