Meditation: http://www.davidlynchfoundation.org/emailing/2007_04_25/index.html

First of all, while he might excel at filmmaking, why should America look to him to solve our social ills?

Second, meditation?! Yeah, sure. Besides the logistics of implementing this, it's just ridiculous. Considering this is a Western nation, few people here hold any stock in its capabilities. Besides, what is he expecting, the entire nation to convert to Buddhism? WHAT!?

Meditation is not a one way ticket to mental well-being.

If you're fucked up in the brainspace, you can't start meditating and expect it to fix everything.

And the practice of meditation is not exclusive to Buddhism.

I heard Lynch lecture about mediation, but it felt like he was a puppet for a more evil force operating behind the curtain. For one, he openly admits when he started being professionally trained he paid $20 (or so) for lessons. Now it's thousands of dollars. He believes the extra money extends to world peace and if Lynch really were in charge, I'd trust him 100%. Alas, I'm fairly sure that the same people who control Scientology control meditation... Maybe not the same people, but the kind of people who like to profit off the gullibility of others.

No doubt in my mind that Lynch believes this would work, he's very passionate about meditation. He's been pretty gung ho for school meditation long before the recent massacre. I remember meditation was taught to me in my health class (granted it was one day and a very quick version at that). Besides, if Lynch didn't meditate we'd never have an ending to Mulholland Dr. which came mostly from meditation sessions (or so he said at the lecture).

So anyway... Yeah, I totally meditate, but I sure as hell don't pay thousands of dollars to do it. Would it end school violence? Um... sense it'll never be enforced in school, thus eliminating the whole philosophy of it, I'll say: Yes.

If you want the book about the practice of meditation in the western world, buy 'Zen Training' by Katsuki Sekida. It's only $20! That's a savings of thousands of dollars.
