Finnish MP seeks votes in Klingon
Fri Mar 9, 9:51 AM ET

A Finnish member of parliament is aiming for re-election by campaigning with a translation of his Web site into Klingon, used in the TV series Star Trek.

"Some have thought it is blasphemy to mix politics and Klingon," said Jyrki Kasvi, an ardent Trekkie. "Others say it is good if politicians can laugh at themselves."

He said his politics posed some translation difficulties, since Klingon does not have words for matters such as tolerance, or for many colors, including green -- the party under whose banner he is running in the national elections on March 18.

Non-warriors can also access the site, www.kasvi.org, in English, Swedish and Finnish.

I still say Conan O'Brien should be the honorary PM of Finland. Kahless isn't available anyway.

And Worf killed Gowron, the very man that he & Picard helped install as leader of the Klingons.

And that's why Worf should be emperor, not Martok. Then again, I disapproved of every storyline decision made in DS9. I give them credit for making story arcs though.

A lot of that stuff was done in a desperate attempt to boost ratings and deflect criticism that nothing ever happened on the show. The trials and tribulations of running a spacestation and occasionally arguing with Cardassians wasn't holding people's interest, so they brought Worf in.

Yeah, I know, and it didn't work. Even having a war didn't help.

Hey, DS9 isn't bad. At least it's not Enterprise.

I did like Dax. Jadzia Dax that is, not that guy from Punk'd. Sadly, she was a fatality of the Dominion War, both in that her character actually died and in that her marriage to Worf was dumb. She should have married Bashir.

Or they should have kept the lesbian angle, that was awesome.

Captain Pickard from Star Wars: The Next Generation is the coolest.

Yeah.. Her death was done pretty poorly. You can't kill her that easily. I mean come on, she took on Pinhead and won!

You can say that about anything though: "Have you ever seen that terrible movie BAPS, starring Halle Berry?" "Yes, but at least it's not Enterpise."

Apparently, you just should make SCI-FI prequels.

Because if you think about it, Enterprise is basically Star Trek: Episode I.

See a pattern?

Enterprise is NOT worse than BAPS. It's also not worse than Swordfish.

Hyperbole, my dear overlord. Nevertheless, the only redeeming thing about Enterprise was their portrayal of the Andorians.

But they really should have killed off Archer after the second season. I've never seen such an accomplished actor perform so badly. But that's only the beginning of the show's problems....Bad writing, recycled scripts, poor portayal of the Vulcans, continuity errors...And I thought Voyager was derivative...Damn, the last good Trek was First Contact....And they never should have had two series on at the same time, oversaturation...And...And...And....[/rant]

But yay, TOS is being reimagined, possibly with Sinise, Brody, & Damon! There is hope again!

The thing that pisses me off the most about Enterprise was the whole Suliban/Cabal storyline. It was thinly veiled amateur political commentary at its worst.

DS9 is my personal favorite of the Star Trek shows. Voyager follows in second.

As for politics, this has got to be one of the most interesting publicity stunts I've seen. Hmm, translating the site into Klingon... interesting...

Oh, and one random note, Picard is incredibly easy to make fun of.
