I suppose I've developed nostalgia over a website concerning nostalgia. Most everyone here is all right in my book, and it's neat to peek in and see how folks are doing from time to time.

Not much new content or hot topics around here...but we seem to be keeping it alive all the same.

I check in about every three days, but rarely post since I'm typically browsing from my phone. For me, typing on a keyboard is preferred (much faster), and when I'm on my phone I tend to only have time to rapidly scan a few websites.

It must have been so worth your time just to log in to tell us that you don't come here anymore, Flaming Shithole.

I miss it too. When we moved 4 hours away from my hometown, I was a stay at home dad and didn't know anybody or really have a lot of opportunities to meet people. You guys helped me get through it. Sounds kind of lame, but I didn't have much of a life outside of taking care of a toddler and making visits every now and then back home. But it was really nice to have a place where I could talk about things I liked with like minded people. When I looked and saw that I hadn't been on here in years, I noticed that it was around the time I moved back home that I stopped posting. You guys got me through a lonely time.

You're welcome!

Evidently I wasn't the only one. This place is like a barren wasteland. Where the fuck is everybody?

I still go here because I cut my teeth on discussion boards of this form factor and I miss them so.

I'm not a bad enough dude, but I am an edgy little shit. I'll do what I can.

Nostalgia mixed with a healthy dose of enjoyment I suppose. I rarely post, but I am vaguely connected to a few of the users through social media. Most of the people here are good people to me, and we've shared history, which is enough for me to come back until the forum or I wither away.

We all came here to discuss our nostalgic love of the cool shit we grew up on.

Maybe the nostalgic love of outdated forums will bring us all back.

This. And I still love re-reading Syd's old articles, too.

The black concert t-shirt article will forever be my favorite.

I like re-reading the old articles. The top 100 NES games is what initially brought me here. I still revisit it from time to time. I also have a fondness for the articles where Syd eats old food.

haha, I didn't even notice I posted Shithole instead of Schnitzel. I curse a lot on my phone texting friends, so it probably autocorrected to the nearest curse word. It's either that or I don't like you. Laughing

When there is new video game news, I instantly think to come to these forums to discuss it and then get sad when I see the thread doesn't exist or is lacking in human? interaction.

Oh, and the drugs, the drugs are straight fire around here.

I miss this place sometimes, so I pop in every once in a while. It was the first forum where i felt i knew everybody pretty well.

I miss the shit out of the IRC chat, too. The IRC was my only source of human interaction for a while when my life really ate balls.

I actually think an extreme attachment to nostalgia is unhealthy to be honest, I feel it can hold people back a great deal from growing as a person. You can disagree, but it's still probably true.

Maybe I'll have a nice nostalgia resurgence once my kid is all grown up and moved away and I'm older with less to do. Maybe I won't. I do miss the 80's like most people here, but if that's all you think about, you have to check into a mental health facility.

I think the way society is set up these days that its almost guaranteed a nostalgia fest happens every 10-15 years so its not like these things will be forgotten forever while we are busy doing other things now in our 30's that pay bigger dividends in the grand scale of life. The release of stuff like the NES classic edition proves to me these companies know what they are doing and they know when to tug on the public's interest at the right time. its like they intentionally have a system set up so this will always be the case. We do live in a capitalistic society afterall and when the need is there someone will be sure to fill it.

All this is so blantantly obvious compared to my early 20's it is almost kind of funny in a way. It seems this is truly how the world is now when it comes to nostalgia presented in the digital age. We don't need to hold onto things in fear of them being forgotten or not treasured anymore as some dude on Youtube will ensure we won't PERMANTELY and is making like 40 grand a year doing it. Syd was one of the last nostalgia based reviewers that relied on their writing technique to entertain the audience. Now all you need now is some clever video editing that appeals to our lowest brain functions. I can see now why he sort of lost interest as why try to keep up with the enthusiasm of a 25 year old who isn't burned out or hasn't been to top of the mountain and back on this sort of stuff. The younger generation is much different in attention spans even compared to us. Especially the ones born after 2000.

Basically, some faceless company will ALWAYS guarantee in some way that we have access to this stuff when we get an itch as long as we have cash to spend. Some futuristic smartphone in 10 years will be made to look like an iPhone 4 and people on reddit will go nuts. People who were like 10 in 2005 will want to obsess about the XBox or PS2 very soon like we did the NES/SNES,etc.
As my grandmother would say "its just the same song, second dance". We aren't missing out on anything by taking an extended break from it. Of course I will be interested in news releated items on stuff like the Nintendo Switch as its the lineage to a culture I was once very passionate about, yet its not like it has to be a big priority anymore at the expense of growth in other areas of life.
