Seriously, this thing outperforms every other indoor antenna I've tried, and the most expensive part is the $3 balun.

(It does get a little help from the old, non-working roof antenna. When it (the roof one) was turned during a storm I lost the two hardest-to-pick-up channels; turned it back, there they were.)

Here's where I got the plans for making it.

I think I'm going to try making one out of some thin wood & flashing, for added sturdiness. It's a bit too flimsy for my cats to be knocking into it a lot.

We made an antenna similar to that when I was in college, but ours was not very successful. Every time a truck drove past out house, we lost signal for 3 to 5 seconds.

I don't have to worry about that. Laughing

(But the wind turbines do screw up the signal occasionally)

I actually use antenna and I dig the sub channels I get. I bought a cheap $10 rabbit eat one. Later I upgraded to more expensive ones but none of them picked up anything else so I returned them. Only downside is that some channels freeze for a sec when a car drives by.

If you guys have attic space ( or build a weather-proof version), to keep it above street level, you should try a Gray-Hoverman antenna:

I built this one for the living room area that gets the worst reception in the house.

Even though it's just sitting on the porch in an enclosed section and has trees and turbines between it and the broadcast towers, it still picks up every channel (the hard-to-reach one I mentioned earlier comes in a tiny bit static-y, still watchable when it's not storming).

Realistically, you're supposed to use exact measurements to pick up the highest-quality signal for the channel range you want to receive, but I just eyeballed the measurements for mine. Razz
