I'm more of a Libertarian, but I vote Republican, so that's what I chose. I guess you could call me a Republican who is socially moderate. Basically, I'm for individualism and a very small government, concentrating on Law & Order and foreign policy.

I vote for the person who makes the most common sense and can explain his or her views logically and with a firm strategy.

Since no one seems to do that anymore, I vote for the person with the biggest rack, male or female.

I chose Democrat. That's what I'm registered as, but, like Spanky, I go with whoever seems to make the most sense and is smartest.

I'm independent also, but I registered as a Democrat so I could vote in the non-partisan primaries. I tend to lean more to the left, but a stomach like mine will do that to you. Or maybe it's because I tend to be a bit more liberal, I don't know. Nobody knows. No one. None. No.

What can I say? L&O is the best show on television!!! I've watched every episode... and I have my father to thank... I mean back in 1990 at the ripe ole age of 7, I should've been watching Sesame Street or something, I was watching Jerry Orbach and S. Epatha Merkerson kick some ass (well starting season 2 onward)...

I'm a fairly conservative person, but I disagree with the Republicans on a few issues. Most notably, minimum wage. Every time someone tries to raise the federal minimum wage, the Republicans shoot it down. Now granted, raising the minimum wage will most likely lead to higher prices and/or inflation, thus nullifying its intended effect, but the majority of Americans support a minimum wage increase.

This raises the question of whether it's the government's job to act out the will of the people or act in the best interest of the people. And really, it is ever possible to completely do either?

No, it isn't. If you always do what's good for the people, they will accuse you of oppression. If you do what the people want all the time, your country goes to shit. It's a vicious cycle.

The basic idea of democracy is that the people will always make better decisions that the ruling class.

Its not possible to both completely, not without a flawlessly educated populace. Because that's not possible, we err on the side of the people. There is an assumption being made that polititians will, if left alone, work towards the greater good for the people. The correct answer is "polititians will work towards anything that makes them more powerful or influential so long as they can get away with it". There is a slim chance that they won't, but voting for the chance to maybe not get screwed over is a bad idea.

And the idea of a benevolent absolute authority is a fantasy. Authority figures are notorious for the speed and degree to which they fall into corruption. There are studies on this.

If the minimum wage does end up increasing the cost of goods (and it probably will), then it'll be a wash anyway. We need to address the living conditions of the very poor. If our wage gap gets much wider, you can rest assured we'll end up like Mexico.

hey guys,know what's a good idea? making Quebec it's own free nation smack dab in the middle of Canada,cutting off the east coast and dividing us as a nation.
It's also a good idea because Quebec has SOO many exports. I am fully confident that Quebec's sovereignty would last forever and makes total sense.

The Bloc is a fucking joke. They only exist as a real party in 1 fucking province,and yet they hold a good majority of seats. Yeah,that's fair representation. I'm sure farmers in Ontario and oil sand workers in Alberta give a fuck about what goes on in Quebec and what Quebec has to say about running the country.

I'm so tired of Separatists and bloc Quebecios. they do nothing but hold back progress in Canada. How can we grow as a country with one of our main provinces talking about separation,and electing leaders who don't give a shit about anywhere but Quebec. it's fucking selfish, because the whole time the faux-French are complaining about language laws and trying to get france to back them in a move for separation,they are completely oblivious to the fact that there is a) a very large population in Quebec who want to be a part of Canada, b) English speaking people in Quebec who are being (basically) segregated by the very people who are mad about being segregated, and c) that there is a REST OF CANADA, where people care about unity and aren't about to let their terrific country be cut in half by a bunch of nay-saying traitors who can't face that they have it very good in Canada.
