Iwata had yet another announcement to make on this morning's Nintendo Direct, this time somewhat more surprising than Hyrule Warriors. NES Remix was announced for the Wii U, compiling many different games from the NES days including The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong 3, and many more.
What makes this game a remix is that the most memorable scenes are taken from each game, and presented differently, with an example from Super Mario Bros. showing a level backwards. This presents interesting new situations and challenge to the player. Miiverse integration was also shown, with 8-bit stamps and score comparing shown off.
NES Remix will go live on the eShop today for $15.
i think this is kind of cool. not sure if it should be $15, but otherwise a very novel idea.

I noticed a distinct lack of Metroid and Kid Icarus in that mix.

The game has an eShop logo in the bottom right corner of the menu screen, so I assume there will be DLC. There are challenges in 16 games, and at least two sets of remix challenges.
This game is damn fun. I played it all day yesterday. Is it worth $15? Probably. DuckTales Remastered was sold for $15, and this has more overall gameplay time than DuckTales, and the same amount of replayability.
I just watched a special GameCenter CX where Arino played with his kids. It looks like a lot of fun, especially when you're doing things like playing Donkey Kong as Link or trying to clear 8-3 of SMB 1 in 45 seconds of invincibility.

The Donkey Kong thing was super tough, because Link is a dick and refused to use his sword. It was rewarding when I finished it though!
The Remix challenges are far and away the best part of this game. The regular challenges are okay, but nowhere near as fun or creative.
This looks really fun. Unfortunately I own neither a wii u nor a 3DS, and financially it would not be viable for me to get either one anytime soon. But this game makes me feel sad about that.

i wasnt sure how many games or variations of said games it had, but if its that fun & has that much replay value, then im sure its worth the $15.
cant wait to get a wii u so i can pick this up, with a few other games

I really think this does a great job at selling the thing:

They're actually Arino's kids.

This game has the presentation of a Japanese TV show. It's brilliant. As someone with no nostalgia for the NES days, I still found enjoyment in it. If $15 sounds like a lot for something like this, consider that individual Virtual Console NES games are $5 each and that this game has substantial fractions of 16 of them.
Fun fact: indieszero, the developer of this game, also developed the Game Center CX games on DS and 3DS.

The very same. There was a whole segment within the show that was dedicated to their production and development while they were being made in Japan.

Not quite, near as I can tell. The names displayed don't match up to Arino, unless they decided to give the girl a fake name for it, which I doubt, and Arino has two daughters, not two sons and a daughter.

I stand corrected.

I'm really interested in seeing how they remix Punch-Out.

I've downloaded the second installment. It's just as fun as the first one.

As it's now after midnight where I am, I completed the last of the first game's 204 challenges yesterday, so I'll also be picking up 2 today.

I've completed all 168 of the game's challenges, cleared Super Luigi Bros. and broke 1.2 million points in Championship Mode, so I consider the game under my belt. Since the selection includes Wario's Woods, I doubt very much that there'll be an NES Remix 3.

They teased an SNES Remix with third-party games, but only with overwhelming support for them.

I don't know, and the window for it is probably past anyway.
Never mind that though. They announced an Ultimate NES Remix for 3DS that includes some elements of both Wii U games, and also something called Speed Mario Bros. I like how the Ultimate entry is both the third in the series and a revision of a past game.
