I just got back from this masterpiece a little while ago. Truly, Guillermo Del Toro's magnum opus. The fights were interesting, the drama compelling and not a trace of mindlessness to be found.

Anyone else?

I haven't seen it but everyone I've talked to says it's amazing. I didn't have any interest in seeing it but I think I might after all the great reviews.

Is there a plot or is it just sweet robot vs monster action? I watched the trailer and there didn't seem to be any hint of a plot at all.

Oh, there's plot. A good amount of it to balance out the main selling point.

I was worried this thing wouldn't live up to the hype. However, only one person I follow socially was let down (which isn't worth considering since she doesn't like kaiju-type stuff at all). Also, apparently Pacific Rim has even been made into the Heroclix game.

I'll most likely be seeing this sometime this weekend.

I just learned this morning that the movie is being outperformed by Grown Ups 2.

The Universe weeps.

Grown Ups 2 looks like a ripoff of Hot Tub Time Machine.

Waiting for the low budget, robot-porno spin off; Pacific Rim Job.

I knew the title of this movie would lead to a dirty joke, but I didn't bother to make one. Thanks Anorexorcist.

I think the movie is very entertaining. The visual effects and the fight scenes are impressive. I have a few questions though, why did Gipsy Danger only used its sword at the most critical moment. Using it earlier would had saved a lot of time defeating a monster yet doing so will take a few great incredible fight scenes away.

It's the same reason the Power Rangers didn't instantly call their Megazord (or use that weird combination crossbow made from all their weapons) or Voltron didn't instantly break out the Blazing Sword, it's just not done.

Ya, I figured it was too easy, but if it gets made I can argue claim to naming rights. Also, not sure what you expected on an unrated retro site...

EDIT: Think of it as an epic porn, in the form of Debbie Does Dallas, but with a broader reach and appeal.

Why do the mechs need two pilots? I thought I saw that in a trailer and I was wondering if was ever explained Confused

(just complaining because my favorite mech franchise will never ever have a movie. Embarrassed)

Because the mental strain is too much for one person, no matter how well-trained, to handle.
