You know what bugs me?
Why is Valentines' Day the day to show your love and affection to you girlfriend? there's 364 other days in the year to show love to your girl. come on.
And if you think I'm saying this 'cause I don't have a girl, you're terribly mistaken.

It's kinda like Christmas. There's no concrete proof that The J to the C was born on Dec. 25th, but that's still the day that's set aside to celebrate it.
And Valentines day is lame, because even if you want to do anything, everyplace is crowded. And if you're generally non-social like my lady and I, the whole thing is either a non-event or an exercise in frustration.

Though I put this poem up, I don't in any way appreciate the celebration of Valentine's Day. It's the most commercial holiday. I agree with everyone who said that there's 364 other days to "celebrate your love". Who really wants to buy overpriced roses? boxes of chocolates? or spend $50 per person to eat a meal at some Oh la la restaurant!
For the record, most girls are not nearly as materialistic as you think.... most of my female friends agree that Valentine's Day is a load of BS.
I personally hate all flowers equally, and I don't eat chocolate. If a guy wants to show his affection for me, he can easily just call me to say he cares, send me a cute little e-card, or take me out to my favorite restaurant. Some of you might think I'm a total bitch, but I'm the most relaxed & down-to-earth girl you could meet. I could care a less if a guy bought me gifts.
As for those who do believe in expensive smelly flowers & trans fat infused candy, good for you... invest your hard earned money in useless trinkets! But hey, if you putting your money towards important things (i.e. not V Day) here's some inexpensive alternatives:
- Assemble a basket of your guy/gal's favorite candy (buy the candy from a bulk barn or Costco)
- Make chocolates! (melt down a block of chocolate and freeze in fun shaped molds)
- Personalized card (a little construction paper, picture of you 2, markers)
- Candlelight dinner at home (you could even make a cozy picnic in your livingroom)
- Sexy IOU coupon "one sexual favor redeemable only on Valentine's Day" (leave it on the bathroom mirror or something)
- Write a poem/song/letter to your loved one
- Breakfast in bed (the key to someone's heart is almost always through their stomach)
- etc. etc. etc.

I dunno -- it just depends how you want to celebrate it. My girlfriend and I are planning on getting Japanese food and renting Saw III. Last year we got Japanese food and rented Saw II.
We like to keep it varied.

Yeah, one Valentine's Day, me and my buddy Geoff accidently went to a Chinese restaurant for lunch without realizing what day it was V-Day. And later that night we watched Goodfellas with some other friends. The year before was even crazier, it involved getting chased by dudes with machetes, hiding in a ditch, and stealing a Grooved Pavement sign
