Watched a few classic movies over the weekend that I cant believe I missed.
The Blues Brothers
Johnny Dangerously
This is Spinal Tap
These movies were all pretty fucking hilarious and I can't believe I'd never seen them before.

They Came Together, a self-aware spoof of romantic comedies starring Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler. It is incredibly stupid, but that's what makes it hilarious. It repeatedly pokes fun at the genre while reveling in its tropes. It borders on absurdity and anti-comedy at points. Good times, but only meant for a specific kind of comedy fan.

Mystery Science Theatre: Gamera vs. Guiron

The last real movie I watched was Foxcatcher. I liked it quite a bit. There was surprisingly little dialogue for a movie around 2+ hours, but I found it to be equally surprising how effective it was at giving you an idea of who these people were. I feel like it would have been better suited if it wasn't advertised as a true crime murder film (the back packaging of the DVD mentions the murder). That would have made it much more surprising at the end. The ending also made it appear as though the events following the 1988 Olympics and the incident in 1996 were much closer in time than they actually were. That being said, I am somewhat interested in reading Mark Schultz's book about his time as an Olympian and with DuPont.

It was pretty darn good. The 'evil' German group did an a capella version of Resistance by Muse, so that was pretty cool.

So is this new Mad Max a reboot or is it the same continuity as the others? Because I haven't seen the others and want to know if I should watch them first before seeing this one.

More of a reboot. The older movies are worth watching though even if just to get a perspective on how well the art style and world is conveyed in the new movie compared to the old ones. My girlfriend was sort of confused as hell not having seen the old movies. However, my mother saw it also and was not but she also didn't realize there are three previous movies. What the fuck mom, she seriously doesn't remember my dad playing these movies like at least once a month...

Mad Max and Road Warrior are pretty highly acclaimed, the third movie Beyond Thunderdome has more mixed opinions but it is my favorite. This is probably due to nostalgia though as I grew up watching them over and over because my father watched it all the time.

The new Mad Max is fucking great.

I would suggest watching the previous ones as PM said, just to get an idea for the tone and style. They're fun and weird, and so is this new one. But you won't need them to understand the storyline completely. Would help though.

Yeah this movie is great. Not that I really care what critics have to say about most movies in general but it is hard to find a movie like this that has pretty much no negative reviews.

The whole movie makes it feel like your driving at 100 MPH the whole time you are watching and that's exactly what you want to do to the audience in a Mad Max movie.

I was doing donuts in my minivan at the drive-in the entire last hour or so. I would highly suggest doing this as it's better than watching it in 3D. Wink

Pretty similar to an earlier Hitchcock film, Saboteur. Both entertaining, but Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint are the better lead characters. The final scene at Mount Rushmore went on a little too long, I think. And I liked the visuals in Saboteur at the Statue of Liberty better, too.

Just watched Stake Land on Netflix:

These days I get tired of vampire movies but this was well done.

Also Absentia, they made this for 70k. Pretty neat:

Jurassic World, it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Not the best movie in the franchise but still enjoyable for me to watch on tv whenever it comes on

To be fair to Jurassic World, no movie could beat the original in terms of best in the franchise.

Last movie I watched was The LEGO Movie, cause we finally bought it! SPACESHIP!!

I watched Whiplash last night.

Holy fucking hell, if you like jazz, drumming, or completely batshit mentor characters, watch it. Even if you don't. Every actor in it is amazing. And it's got me listening to hella jazz.
