People have begged and pleaded for me to start another one of these, so I figured I'd throw them a bone. Douche won the last one: http://www.sydlexia.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14842

I'm taking sign-ups for people who want to participate in a chess competition among SydLexians. We had people of all skill levels participate last time, and it was fun...for most of us, at least.

There is one rule change: a time limit. You will have a 30 minute bank of time with which to make your moves. Now, that's more than enough time for most people, but I've still decided to include a timer so that people aren't stuck in two hour+ matches again. This way the absolute max a game could be is an hour, and even that would be unlikely. It still gives you enough time to properly think out strategy.

I'm not sure how the regular season schedule would go yet. That will be determined by the number of participants that sign up. Most likely, it would be a situation where you play everyone in your division (or in the entire competition) twice--playing as each color once. Then I'd seed a tournament based on that.

I minimally would want 10 people to join. Hopefully we can get there. Post in this thread if you want to join up.

Good luck, and have fun!

I should add that you don't have to worry about schedules because there is not a set time that you will have to play. You just work out a time to play with whoever your opponent is.

Since I posted this twenty hours ago, I've been monitoring its progress. For hours, hardly a quarter-hour went by that this didn't get viewed. As it got closer to being the second thread from the top of the first page, it didn't get as many views, but people were still viewing it regardless. Very few of the now-over-100 views were mine, so it's obvious that a good number of you were interested in this and probably the other several open spots, yet only nine people posted a thing about it. Well, now I'm bumping it to give it a second chance.

This thread is unpopular because there aren't enough sheeps. It's hard to believe, but Klim really did make such an obvious mistake.

If I had enough people say they don't want a time limit at all, I'd remove it. I just remember not having one last time and certain people taking like 20 minutes to make a move a few times per game. Most people don't have that kind of time to kill.

I would consider upping the half hour limit, but I figure half an hour for all of your own moves (your opponent has their own half hour time) was enough.

If that's the problem, Klimb, I'd PERSONALLY rather see each individual move limited to a certain number of minutes, rather than the whole game. But that's just me; I'm happy to see this revived either way. Very Happy

Minutes/move is kind of dumb, because you have moves you'll play in two seconds (opening, recapture, forced), along with some complex positions you'll spend over 5 minutes on.

So time/move tends to be more restricting, unless you set it really high, making it kind of pointless.
