Ok, this is giving me a boner. I found out about this game kind of recently. They've also redone Link to the Past as 'Parallel Worlds'. If anyone doesn't know about these, and you're a fan of the older Zelda games, then this might interest you. Has anyone tried or heard of these? I NEED to play these games soon.

I really wish someone would remake the first Zelda game on a new engine. I can't stand it. Any game where you're stuck on an invisible grid is really grating to me.
If I hit left to dodge an enemy or projectile I expect to immediately move left, not move UP on an invisible grid first, then left, walking directly up into the object I wasted my time and effort trying to avoid in the first place!!!!

Is that why Link moves so weird in the original game? I just assumed it was because he was so tubby.

I checked this out and went to the game reproduction to look at the cart the guy did. I found it pretty funny that it was just the original Zelda Cart Cover with "Outlands" scribbled underneath.

Don't know if anyone has ever covered this, but there are several homebrew quests here, built on the original Zelda platform and LtoP platforms. I've been playing the End of Time quest. It's based on the original Zelda platform, but incorporates some things from later games, like flippers, super bombs, etc.

I heard of Parallel worlds, made with the Open Zelda engine, which was the engine used on the infamous Ocarina Of Time 2D, which was cancelled when the creator, Richard "Dampe" Denton faked his death to get out of the project.

It's actually true. The guy would rather fake his death than say he quit the project.

A Zelda hack does seem like it'd be a fun thing to play. I might try this later

The least he could have done is release the source before he went under. I woulda claimed I was sacked by the authorities.

He used the Open Zelda engine, which is free to download, so you can make it if you're a good enough programmer.

I think you misclicked, you want the Skyward Sword thread a couple posts below this one.
I've never seen Outlands before, but I'm with the robot in supporting Parallel Worlds as one of the better LttP romhacks out there.

BUMP.. Finally played Outlands for the first time. It's definitely an awesome hack. It's also 5 times harder than the original Zelda. I'll probably be spending all of my free time engulfed in this game.

BUMP...
I've played Outlands and Parallel Worlds. There's a few other Zelda hacks I'd like to try in the future. There's "Ganon's Revenge", "Ganon's Deception", "Shin Zelda Densetsu" and a few others based on the original Zelda engine. There's also "Goddess of Wisdom" based on the Link to the Past formula. Anybody try any of these, or recommend any of these?

I have only played the ones you have and have yet to finish either one of them. I do have Ganon's Revenge, so I may have to check that out. Then again, I can grab the other ones easily. It would be a good reprieve as I've been playing RPG Maker games for the last few months.
There was another thorough LttP hack that was still incomplete as of last year, but I can't remember the name of it or find it for the life of me. I've been waiting for years and last I checked, it seemed likely it would never be completed.

I'm certain you're referring to Quest for Calatia, which is by the same guy who made Outlands. His last journal update was in November 2013, and he always tries to come back to it every now and then. I'm still holding out hope for it's eventual completion, but I'm not as optimistic as I once was... I still check in on it every month or so. I know that if this game ever gets finished, it will be incredible.
P.S. Parallel Worlds sucks.

Parallel Worlds is too confusing and unpolished for my tastes.

I remember starting to play Parallel Worlds, running around for 30 minutes without knowing where to go and never touching it again.

What can I say? I'm spoiled on those overdone hacks that look like legitimate releases.
