GPF, Baseball isn't worse than other baseball games, but it did nothing to improve the genre. The pitching has some depth to it, but it's basically same crap, better graphics.

10-Yard Fight may not be a good football sim, but it's fast-paced and easy to play. Golf innovated the power/accuracy bar. Tennis is a competent tennis game. Baseball is meh. When you look at how far ahead further NES baseball games pushed the genre, Baseball is downright embarassing.

Loved the article.

It's crazy that so many of the launch games were so arcadey-repetitive when the NES was clearly capable of so much more.

Where did you get the info that Golf was the first game with a swing meter?

Leaderbaord Golf for the Commodore 64 was also developed in 1984 and also has a swing/accuracy meter. So, I'm just curious. I can't cannot find proof of either one being "first".

It was released in 1986. Bruce and Roger Carver began work on it in 1984. It was revolutionary for it's time. It created a psuedo-3D golf course, which is simply insane, given that it was on a 64k Commodore.

Well, Nintendo originally released Golf in May 1984 in Japan. Remember, the Famicom debuted in 1983. So the Nintendo game was developed either concurrently or first, was completed first, and it was first to market.

I have yet to complete a game of baseball because it takes so freakin' long.

If you ask me, it's a pretty weak launch lineup besides SMB, but they're all at least meh games.

Tennis hasn't been my favorite game. Video or real life, it doesn't matter. I can't keep up with the ball.

Maybe I shouldn't be so fat.
