For reference, I'm playing on a PC Douche and I just X'd out of the screen. I played for a few minutes and here are some things I would address:

1. In the town, Tonic and Potion are mixed up from each other on the "buy" and "inventory" spots, that would lead to purchases of the wrong item I bet.
2. When I died, I got a game over screen, and could do nothing but X out and reload the game.
3. When I enter the town or entered a battle, the main map window would vanish and just the new window would appear. I'd rather the main map window would stay up.
4. During battles, that screen takes precedent over anything and it can't be minimized.
5. Ability to use items outside of battle.
6. Health/magic replenished at level up?

Edit: This was all before your latest update.

Been working on the tiles for a bit and got a few done. For now, it's a little...green but I'll take care of that in time. Figured I'd recreate part of the demo map as I get each piece done.

I was wondering, can the tiles be overlapped at all in the program you're using? The forest in the pic was made by placing the 16X16 tiles on top of each other at the halfway point, just makes things look better. Anyway, input and all that is welcome, I'll get more done as the week goes on.

I built the original map in ms Paint. I just liked it because of the grid and super zoom. I can use Photoshop to get all the transparency stuff and I could layer it that way. Or I could build a whole map and then put all the stuff on it. That way layering isn't really an issue.

Edit: Also the map is going to change. As of right now it's a large square island. Once I get dungeons and towns made, I'd like to expand the world map.

Edit Edit: Nicely done by the way.

Ok, cool, that opens up a lot more options to me with these. I'll keep building the old map as a tile test to see how everything looks.

Gave it a run, obviously your working on it all still but...

-Being able to use Items outside of battle.

-Satyr in woods kicks my ass at lvl 3, and honestly the amount of gold I get from regular monsters doesn't cover my inn costs to keep grinding up. Would suggest lowering the inn price or raising the gold drop.

-If I die and go to the Game Over Screen, If I click either button, the program locks up and stops responding.

1. Looking into it for this update.

2. When I changed the level requirements in the last update this became a big issue. The inn price will be lowered to compensate this in the next update. And with the addition of 3 "new" monster when you cross the bridge gold and exp will be increased with those.

3. This is an ongoing issue currently being looked into.

I should have a new version with a "weapon shop" and some randomness to the fights up tonight. The save feature works but still needs some tweaking before it gets check marked as "Done" Thanks for checking it out and your feedback.

Also just because it seems like it may already be known please post your thoughts of improvement or problems.

Here's a list of glitches I found:

- Hitting the run button after you have no health remaining will just make your health keep going down (-3, -7, -11, etc.) without triggering a Game Over screen. Hitting any other option after the HP is in the minus will trigger a Game Over.

I'll keep posting more as I find them.

So I was thinking about some ideas and went back through this thread, and I will be incorporating a fairly unique Weapon system with the next update. If that is well received I may do the same thing with the armor as well.

No estimated time of completion but possibly by Sunday night/Monday morning.

I just downloaded the latest version, I haven't played since the first version....the starter mobs are kicking my ass! Okay, grabbed the knife and things are going better, tried the sword and I guess it didn't stick.

Adding notes as I play:

Level up music is sweet!
I want my HP/MP replenished with level up!
I want to name my character.
I want to be able to minimize/move the game window or sound off option.
I want to move my character with WASD keys.
First "boss" music is sweet.
First boss kicked my ass. Fuuuuuuuuuck.

After reaching just level 2, the mobs are generally stupidly easy, other than the bridge boss, who fucked me up.

I don't mind going to the Inn to save, I think people nowadays are more used to being able to save anytime though......haha, this reminded me of playing NES when I was younger, and my dad would say to turn it off, and I'd tell him I just have to save, and he'd go nuts because he wanted it off right away, that dude cost me so many level ups.....asshole

Reset button maybe?

I think herbs are killing me if my hp is low when i use it?....ahh, the enemy is attacking before my herb kicks in? I feel like if I'm using an item, it should be the next action taken in the battle.

I don't think all changes are sticking everytime I load it, based on the gold being only 100 sometimes, and 500 other times.

I have to buy, then upgrade the knife twice for it to take any effect, then when i reload a saved game, it is wiped away, so to reload a save would require a lot more gold for testing purposes, so we can get a weapon again.

EDIT: Main map music is good, but the loop point is too abrupt, it needs to flow back to the beginning more fluidly.

Maybe I'm trying to fight him too soon, but that boss crushes me pretty quickly. I lack patience and if I die I have to start over because the weapon can't save.

You can use the inn with no money, money goes negative.

Mobs after the first bridge are a bit harder for sure, I really meant around the first town that mobs are really easy really soon, but I guess how soon they become really easy depends on how long you plan on making the game . I'm also using the knife upgraded twice, that may not be a realistic option at the start as the game refined.

I think battles need to move a touch slower, I can spam through a battle in a second. Some sort of flow like player attacks, attack effect, description of attack, mob attacks, effect, description....I guess a good question is, how long do you envision a play through of the game to take? That would help me gauge some of the timing nuances and if I feel they are appropriate.

Timing is a known issue, basically I'm trying to get it as playable as possible before adding effects and the like, but I have been meaning to slow battles down a bit. Rather than add a timer to the battle that would force it to slow down, a simpler fix would be to just add sfx for attacks and other actions. So I'm waiting on that.

The length is another question. In reality I would like to expand this game much larger and make this beginning island, where you start your quest for whatever it is you're questing for. I'll also be adding dungeons and actual towns as soon as I get tile sets.

The starting gold and Inn, issue are easy fixes that I will do ASAP. I'm still feeling out the battle portion, but the feedback on the difficulty definitely helps guide me which way to go. I knew the attack and monster attack formulas were going to be a pain in my ass. Razz

I may have also made the bosses to hard...I'll wait on confirmation to that point.

So this is the update before the new graphics overhaul and the first dungeon.
The big updates are the Sound options in the menu, updated the music player, lowering the size to 11MB. Also worked out the ability to move slower rather than at "Flash" like speeds. Those are the major updates, since the "screwup"

None as of yet. Laying down the ground work of the game first. I gotta get a town done to see how the "cutscenes" would work.

Are you on a MAC? If not you may just need to download the .Net Framework.
