I don't think so... from what i understand a democracy is about the structure in wich rules are passed, and power is held. So i think a democracy can pass socialist laws, and still be a democracy.

Now a capitalistic socialist, i can see someone arguing in their strictest of definition they are mutually exclusive, i.e. self contradictory, i.e an oxymoron.

I'm also late to the party, but:

The Republic of Jeebusvania

“Live Free or Die”

Category: Corporate Bordello
Civil Rights:
Average Economy:
Very Strong Political Freedoms:
Excellent

Location: SLF

Regional Influence: Minnow

The Republic of Jeebusvania is a fledgling, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 5 million are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

The small government juggles the competing demands of Religion & Spirituality, Law & Order, and Defence. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 3%. A small private sector is led by the Furniture Restoration industry, followed by Arms Manufacturing and Woodchip Exports.

Crime is a major problem. Jeebusvania's national animal is the jaguarundi, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the vink.

Okay, this one made me smile:

The Issue
During the construction of a new Hyper-Mega-Ultra-Super Mall, construction workers have unearthed what appears to be an ancient temple. A furious debate has arisen between those who wish to preserve it, and those who need their retail therapy.

Option 1: Halt all construction to inspect and protect the temple.
Option 2: The past is nice, but we should worry about the future. Bury the place.
Option 3: "Behold, the hour has arrived! The Holy Temple of Firefury Amahira has been unearthed!" proclaims Yon-Zhauryg v'Klot, leader of the Cult of the Undead Hawk. "This land is sacred, and must not be befouled by these corporations! No-one but the enlightened children of Firefury must be allowed to venture inside our rediscovered sanctuary, where we will perform the required rituals to please the Great Goddess and prevent Her from unleashing Her wrath upon the world."

Option 3 it is.

I got one concerning what to do with criminals. The choices ranged from instant death penalty to gladiator battles, so, naturally, I went with gladiator battles. Best choice I've made by far.

I had one a while ago about immigrants. To be an immigrant you have to go through a treacherous obstacle course. Those who win get to be an immigrant; those who don't, well let's just say that the hounds wont go hungry. And the whole event is a televised event titled. "Who wants to be an Immigrant?"

The Issue
Due to the ongoing wars in neighboring countries, a recent rash of illegal immigrants have been caught at the borders of Naunie, prompting many citizens to call for tighter immigration laws.
The Debate

1. Larry Utopia of the Naunie National Purity League says "These illegal aliens are just an eyesore with their strange customs and funny languages. Uneducated immigrants like these only worsen crime and steal valuable jobs! I say we should boot them all out on their ears and put a big fence around the country!"

2. Beth Winters of the Naunie Civil Liberties Union says "We must welcome these refugees from any nation into our open arms, they are fleeing one oppressive dictatorial regime in the only way they know, we must not let them think they're jumping from the frying pan into the fire!"

3. "Hold on there, hold on people!" says Violet Spirit of the Naunie Broadcasting company, "We don't have to take either extreme, all we have to do is make a TV game show out of it! We put deadly obstacles on the border and monitor it with television cameras! Those that make it across win freedom and citizenship, and those who don't, well, lets just say that our buzzards won't starve. We could call it 'Who Wants to be an Immigrant?'!"

I'm going with Option 3.

I think we all went with Option 3.

Somehow my country became Democratic Socialists. Fucking bullshit! Socialism sucks. I'm going to start taking hardline stances until I get my country back to having a less pathetic form of government.

I was moving between Inoffensive Centrist Democracy and Conservative Democracy for most of my run and I was happy with that.

A Capitalist Paradise can also turn into a Father Knows Best State or Iron Fist Consumerists. That's what happened to Haddox.

I was an Inoffensive Centrist Democracy for pretty much my whole stay. Just a little bit ago I turned into a New York Times Democracy, though :O

I was happy as a "Father Knows Best" state, which fits with my Monarchy I had established. Now I am a "Corrupt Dictatorship". Which makes me a bit mad.

My nation-state is Democratic Socialists again. I just got it back to Inoffensive Centrist Democracy, too. I guess I need to make them remember what fear tastes like.

A particularly bad spate of bombings, hijackings and snake attacks aboard airline flights has crippled the air travel industry in Elnia. The government has convened to discuss possible ways of improving airport security.

I chose to put armored guards with guns on the planes. What have I done?

The Free Land of Magognia is a fledgling, environmentally stunning nation, renowned for its absence of drug laws. Its hard-nosed, intelligent population of 5 million enjoy extensive civil rights and enjoy a level of social equality free from the usual accompanying government corruption.

The enormous, socially-minded government juggles the competing demands of Education, Social Welfare, and Healthcare. The average income tax rate is 36%, but much higher for the wealthy. A small private sector is dominated by the Soda Sales industry.

Crime is moderate, and the police force struggles against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Magognia's national animal is the rhino, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the credit.
