http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=16223

That give you a rundown on how ecomonics work in NationStates. Basically, it all self-checked and there are no set in stone rules for buying/selling goods. Though, I do notice in the market forums, if you try to buy a crapload of sometime, people will check your country's budgets and cry foul if you can't afford it.

Then you just have to keep your own records on what you buy and sell. This info can be kept in your Nation's Factbook and/or National Information which you can create here:
http://forum.nationstates.net/viewforum.php?f=23&start=0

Or on your own person website or wiki.

So, for buying weapons, you check to see what your nation's budgets are. In your case:

Government Statistics
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GDP (Official): $72 billion
GDP Per Capita (Official): $12,036
Income Tax Rate: 16%
Government Income (% of GDP): 24.1%
Private Consumption: $72 billion
Government Budget: $17 billion
Administration (31%): $5 billion
Welfare (0%): $0 billion
Healthcare (4%): $1 billion
Education (0%): $0 billion
Religion and Spirituality (15%): $3 billion
Defence (0%): $0 billion
Law and Order (50%): $8 billion
Commerce (0%): $0 billion
Public Transport (0%): $0 billion
Environment (0%): $0 billion
Social Equality (0%): $0 billion
Government Waste (2%): $0 billion

You have a Denfense Budget of $0.00, so you will have to get the funds from your Law & Order budget. State how many of what you are purchasing on for how much. Then make records of the transactions.

So it's just additional roleplaying that has no effect on your actual country?

The way it is setup, the base "game" is very limited, but there is a whole fricking world in the forums were everyone lives out their countries. So, if you just want to answer moral questions and see how your country grows you can. Or you can dive in a reenact World War 2, complete with detailed battles, politics, and resource management.

I think I'd rather play Utopia.

You know, my nation's motto is actually the motto of the royal family with my last name. Except in English, not Latin, like it should be.

The in-depth shit sounds cool, but I'm already way too wrapped up in other things that don't have much application to my life, outside of game programming concepts. That's why I did this in the first place, but it's a pretty simple system. I like the philosophical side of it as well, but I'd like to see something I haven't already thought about.

Done. Also, in an issues about the minor regulations on political funding:

Right. I'm going to topple the current course of my government, because my drunk brother, named Beth, thought it was a good idea. How could I not endorse that? Neutral

Damnit! I'm back to being a Corrupt Dictatorship (from a Father Knows Best State) after turning down a Cash for Organ Donations program.

Regional Influence says I'm Dealmaker caliber now though.

Well this just got really dumb. Organ donation is mandatory in my state, and now my current issue is whether or not to legalize paying money for blood and organ donation. There should be no shortage of organs dammit.

Are you sure that your country doesn't have a black market for organs? Maybe you pull them from all the dead citizens and then sell them to other countries, and demand is becoming higher then supply?

So, does anyone want to run an RP with me in the Nation States forum? I was thinking about doing a wedding between one of my royals with another country's. Then have a huge incident happen, like a terrorist/criminal attack ala Die Hard.

Kinda late for the party, but...

The Federal Republic of Ryukashia

“To persevere and strife to greatness!”

Category: Democratic Socialists
Civil Rights: Below Average
Economy: Fair
Political Freedoms: Excellent

Regional Influence: Minnow

The Federal Republic of Ryukashia is a fledgling, devout nation, remarkable for its burgeoning firedrake population. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 5 million are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked morass -- juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Religion & Spirituality, and Education. The average income tax rate is 42%, but much higher for the wealthy. A healthy private sector is led by the Gambling, Cheese Exports, and Basket Weaving industries.

Crime is relatively low, thanks to the all-pervasive police force. Ryukashia's national animal is the firedrake, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the atma.

I forgot about this. I've had an account on and off for 5-6 years, since I always forget about it. Seems they've added some options, like National Leader and whatnot.

Category: Inoffensive Centrist Democracy

Thriving
Political Freedoms: Excellent

Regional Influence: Minnow

The Free Land of Spiritopia is a massive, economically powerful nation, notable for its keen interest in outer space. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 1.853 billion have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Healthcare, Education, and the Environment. It meets every day to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Uncle Touchy's Puzzle Basement. The average income tax rate is 81%, and even higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

The government is notorious for leaving citizens with almost nothing from their inheritance, the government has declined to declare any particular religion as its 'official' one, Mr Happy's Funland has just been named Spiritopia's new capital, and criminals are thrown to the moocows to repay their debt to society. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is moderate, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. Spiritopia's national animal is the moocow, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the ramen packet.

My country always seems to suffer from really high taxes and crime, which I always found kind of odd given the weird-ass questions they throw at you that seem to indicate affecting nothing in particular.

None because I put it on vacation mode where you don't receive any issues until you set it back. It's on the settings page.
