I was just thinking about American Idol and Rock Star: INXS and I realized that I really don't like 'find-the-next-big-singer' shows. But then I was struck with arguably the greatest idea ever for a show in this genre.

Rock Star: Mike Portnoy's Next Band

Who'd watch it?

Wait, what? Did Dream Theater break up?

No, Dream Theater is still around, but Mike Portnoy was given the opportunity to build his dream band a few years back. He picked Jordan Rudess for keyboard and Tony Levin from Peter Gabriel's band for bass. Then he couldn't find a guitarist, so he just took John Petrucci. Thus Liquid Tension Experiment was born. Fundamentally Dream Theater minus a singer and minus John Myung.

So why not create a third band for Mike, composed of average joes from around the continent?

That sounds like a pretty cool idea.

Or they could build a reality show around Mike Patton's next band since he forms a new one every few years. Or not, since he should reform Faith No More instead.
