This may go against everything sacred and holy about discussion forums on the internet, but it'd be interesting to know:

Who is everyone? Obviously you don't need to post your names, addresses, social security numbers, or hot ex-girlfriends' phone numbers, but what kind of shit do you do beyond SydLexia.com? What's your walk in life, that sorta thing? I just think it'd be cool to know who we're complaining to/arguing with. The forums here seem like a relatively tight-knit group, so why the hell not. I'll start:

Kurt, originally from Mount Holly, New Jersey
Went to high school in Mount Holly, spent my freshman year as a business major at Drexel U in Phiadelphia and got bored with an engineering-centered school
Transferred to the College of NJ near Trenton as a Business Administration major, graduated a few years ago
Just finished my Master's in Organizational/Small Group Communication/Social Psych this past May.
Now am a first year doctoral student in Small Group Communication in the context of terrorism, war, and international crisis- I have to read way more than I ever really want to. I'm easily distracted from reading by Punch Out and Resident Evil 4.
Never want a "real" job, teaching college students will suit me just fine
Have upwards of 150 DVDs, Teen Wolf is one of the best pickups I got
Played ice hockey for about 7-8 years as a goaltender, haven't played since my NCAA eligibility ran out the year I graduated, almost went to Canada to play juniors at 17, almost went to Tennesee to try out for a Southern semipro league after undergrad... was too lazy to do either.

I guess that's enough... any other takers?

Sure, I'll bite.

Dr. Jeebus from Massachusetts.
Went to the University of Miami for 4 years originally studying Music Engineering then switching to IT. Would have graduated in 4½ but bullshit prerequisite rules were going to make it 5, and the banks wouldn't give me any more loans, so me and 29 of my 100+ credits came up to UMass. Part of the reason so few transfered is because I switched to the school of business where I am double majoring in Management of Information Systems and Accounting.
While in Miami I started dating a wonderful girl, but when we both had to leave to go to state schools (She's at OSU) it became an off and on thing, though at this point it is and will undoubtedly remain for many years on. We both will be graduating this spring at which point she's moving out here with me, so we have the awesome task of trying to find an apartment without knowing at all what we'll be making and most likely without her being physically here to see it.
I work part time at a comic book store, mainly hired for my expertise in Magic as my friends and I have been playing for about 11 years now, and I am a registered judge and tournament organizer so not only do I run tournaments there, but occasionally work at larger tournaments in Boston, though very occasionally as I prefer to play in them. I also maintain the store's website which is very little work,
Oh yeah, I'm Syd's brother and have known Spanky since, like, forever, and also worked with greeneeyedzeke years ago at a grocery store.

I think that's more than anyone wanted to know.

Ryan
From Georgia (I think I'm the only Southern forumite here)
Graduated High School at Mt. Zion High School in Morrow, Ga. in 2000 CE
Lasted two semesters at Clayton College and State University as a Psychology major
Was into Magic since my freshman year of college, then added D&D to the retinue and eventually my wallet's focus went toward the furry fandom. My Magic cards are sealed in a shoebox covered in electrical tape (the only kind I could find at the time) and now I'm dual-focused in D&D and the fandom.
Currently working at an independent convenience store and delving into video editing.

Future Plans: Move to L.A. in '08... Vegas trip in Jan. Cool (Praying for a P.A. gig on the new Batman film if they return to Chicago).

Mr. Bomberman/Mike. I'm 18, from Staten Island.
I'm in the last year in my High School and at the near top of my class.
I work at a Foot Locker in Staten Island Mall.
Hobbies: If you didn't see it coming, I'm an otaku (anime/manga, game imports, studying the Japanese language the whole nine), and sneakerhead. But I have a life, too, hanging out in Manhattan with a lot of friends, and my girlfriend.
I am a hip-hop/rap head, and I like to make beats on the stolen FruityLoops that I got. I like some types of rock, but not the hardcore stuff.
I play basketball/football all the time, but I don't follow pro much.
Gaming history: NES(pretty late), SNES/Genesis/TG16 -- N64/Saturn -- Xbox/GC. Planning to get a Wii next year.
Future plans-- I plan to start my own game company. Yes, this dream may be far-fetched, but I have laser sight on doing it.

That was (almost) me in a nutshell.

Sure whatever, I'm bored and this kills time.

Adam 16
Miami, Fl
I do dual enrollment which is basically high school/college so I'll have my AA by the time I'm 17
I used to work at Toys R' Us but now I work at American Eagle.
I'll probably go to the University of Florida because it'd be free, but I'd like to go to Columbia University or the University of Michigan
I plan to double major in Psychology/Legal Studies and I hope to become a lawyer but I'm not sure what field of law I want to be in yet.
I'm a big fan of video games and sports in general (except hockey).
I can play Alto Sax, Trumpet, and Drums.
I'm also a Republican, but I still like to watch The Daily Show and The Colbert Report because I'm not uptight and defensive like other Republicans.
I'm a big fan of indie rock and hiphop, but I also like mainstream stuff.
I also like learning about pop culture because I like to broaden my knowledge about the different eras so this website has been great for that.

Yeah, that's pretty much all I have to say.

Matisyahu is a member of the Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidic community in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York. Matisyahu was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania and his family eventually settled in White Plains, New York. He was brought up a Reconstructionist Jew, and sometimes performed under the alias MC Truth for MC Mystic's Soulfari band. At 16, Matisyahu took part in a semester-long program that offers students first-hand exploration of Jewish heritage at Alexander Muss High School in Hod Hasharon, Israel. His experiences there signficantly affected his feelings towards Judaism. He eventually turned to Orthodox Judaism, becoming a baal teshuva around 2001 through Chabad of Washington Square and began playing with the Jewish band Pey Dalid. [1]

Matisyahu studied Torah seriously in Hadar Hatorah, a yeshiva for returnees to Judaism, and he wrote and recorded his first album while still a student there. He counts Bob Marley, Phish, God Street Wine and Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach among his musical inspirations and gives credit to Rabbi Simon Jacobson's book Toward A Meaningful Life for the lyrical inspiration to Youth's title track. Matisyahu does not perform in concert on Friday nights in observance of the Jewish Sabbath.

In November 2005 Matisyahu was among the top 5 members in the American Jewish community in The Forward [2]. Matisyahu was given an Esky for Most Lovable Oddball in Esquire's 2006 Esky Music Awards. The magazine called him "the most intriguing reggae artist in the world."

The live version of the song 'King Without a Crown', broke into the Modern Rock Top 10 in 2006. The accompanying video and new album - 'Youth' - produced by Bill Laswell were released on March 7, 2006. On March 16th Youth was Billboard magazine's #1 "Digital Album" and as of April 4th stands at 16th on iTunes' top albums. During June 2006, Matisyahu was the Xbox Live Artist of the Month [3] with the videos for "Youth" and a live recording of "King Without a Crown" available to download from Xbox Live in High Definition.

Also, his most recent accomplished output of exposure was his live showing in front of over 80,000 people at the Bonnaroo Music Festival 2006. In spring 2006, Matisyahu cut ties with his label JDub, which resulted in much criticism as well as legal action over the unlawful breach of contract this termination represents.[4]

The music, developed partly with his backing band Roots Tonic has a unique sound, mixing reggae, traditional rap, and guitar solos typical of rock music. He sometimes performs with Kenny Muhammad, a Muslim beatboxer. Matisyahu's major label debut album was produced by avant-garde musician and producer Bill Laswell, with minor contribution by pop producers Jimmy Douglass and the Ill Factor.

Most of his songs are almost entirely in English with just a few words of Hebrew and Yiddish sprinkled in. His reggae vocal style is along the lines of traditional Rasta Roots stylings mixed with dub sound. The easiest comparison would be similar to the conscious and cultural sides of Buju Banton, Sizzla, Capleton, or Junior Kelly, but with the upbeat message of Luciano, Bushman and Everton Blender, and vocal dexterity of Barrington Levy. The production of the tracks draws from King Tubby, Augustus Pablo, Mikey Dread, and Linval Thompson. Similarities to the Foundation Sound of the late 1970s and 1980s would be accurate, and comparisons to Morgan Heritage likewise, would not be wrong. However, he mixes in contemporary stylings of rap and beatboxing, similar to Sublime, as well as the traditional Hazzan style of Jewish cantors and Hasidic nigunim. The generally critical New York Times' Kelefa Sanneh notes that "His sound owes a lot to early dancehall reggae stars like Barrington Levy and Eek-a-Mouse."[1] The Chicago Tribune's Kevin Pang has described a Matisyahu performance as "soul-shaking brand of dancehall reggae, a show that captures both the jam band vibe of Phish and the ska-punk of Sublime." Reviewers generally agree that Matisyahu may disappoint reggae purists, but acknowledge the unique blend of musical traditions that Matisyahu harnesses generally please the people who see his performances. Matisyahu's style has been compared to Jew da Maccabi, an Orthodox Jew from Florida who includes religious lyrics within a musical style derived from hip-hop.[5]

In an interview with Chabad.org, a popular Jewish website, Matisyahu states that "All of my songs are influenced and inspired by the teachings that inspire me. I want my music to have meaning, to be able to touch people and make them think. Chasidism teaches that music is 'the quill of the soul.' Music taps into a very deep place and speaks to us in a way that regular words can't."

Bill. I've lived in the Chicagoland area my entire life. Childhood spent in the south suburbs, college and grad school spent in the northern burbs and the north side.

Graduated from Northwestern in 2002 with a B.A. in history with an european concentration. Did some substitute teaching for two years after that, which is my biggest regret. That time would have been better spent in a 2 yr. hitch with the navy. Started attending Loyola University's History Graduate School in 2004, pursuing an M.A. in history with a major in Modern Europe and a minor in the United States. Still trying to finish my Master's Essay so that they can finally award me my degree. As of right now though, I'm working as a paralegal while considering the pursuit of a law degree instead of going after my Ph.D. in history. While researching and teaching history at the college level would be fun, the lack of structure annoys me, as do all the drunks, commies, and socialists in history programs.

I'm a politics junkie. Mainly a moderate republican, but I've been labeled a libertarian before because of my strong advocacy of small government and individual choice.

I've loved poker since I was a kid, and it's gradually becoming a source of supplemental income for me. I also love many sports, including billiards, soccer, and football. Go Bears!

Tishwitch/Patricia rearing from exciting Prince Edward Island, Canada.

I am 22 years old (23 in just under 1 month - please send gifts! Preferrably money!!!) Until the age of 15, I was a competitive Gymnast, aspiring for the Olympics... but due to a permanent knee injury, that dream came crashing down. I now suck at most sports. I graduated with a BA in Psychology from UPEI in 2005. I plan to attend UToronto or something to purse a MA and PhD in Social Work... someday soon. I work for Apple Computers, as an iPod Technical Support Agent, soon to be promoted to Product Specialist (where I hear I can earn the bigger bucks). I got my job there because I am the illigitimate love child of Steve Jobs (just kidding). In my spare time, I like to watch tons of TV - mainly crime dramas - surf youtube.com, listen to music, discuss pop culture, and hang out with my cats. I have 3 cats: Scamper, Sammi, and Gizmo --- they kick ass! Oh, and I have an awesome rack! Cool

Great thread, Kubo. It's nice to see the people behind the avatars.

Samantha, 20, and I've lived in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area for most of my life. I'm working on my associates right now, and feel a little digusted for setting my sights so low. I enjoy the arts (everything the term entails), video games (which I feel should be an art), and reading (anything).

As for my job, I'm on-call as a dishwasher at a mom'n'pop restaurant, but I rarely get called in, so might as well say I'm unemployed. Never had a "real" job because I'm an artist; been making and loving art since I was old enough to grasp a crayon. You name the medium, and I work/ will work in it- and trust me, people,I could use the work. If you have art needs, keep me in mind.

My thinking exactly... lots of artists on the forums I noticed. I feel a little left out. I can't draw or paint worth a good god damn, but if you're right in saying that video games are an art, then Mega Man 2 is my canvas.
