-lakers still being champions.

-dodgers being #1

-diamondbacks not doing anything right (oh big whoop, one championship... get some more and then we can talk baseball history)

-stupid bandwagon suns fans seeing their team go down in flames. dont get me wrong, i used to be able to tolerate the suns fans back in the barkley/johnson days, but these new suns fans win a couple of games, go to the playoffs and talk so much BS about the lakers, its annoying. win a championship for crying out loud

-mexico and usa both still 1 & 2 in concacaf qualifying for the world cup

Patriots:
3 Super Bowl Titles this decade
An undefeated regular season followed by a Super Bowl appearance.
Guaranteed competitive team for another 4 years or so.

Red Sox:
2 World Series Titles since '04
The greatest Playoff Series ever, in any sport....2004 ALCS
Everything starting to click this season.

Celtics:
Won a Championship
If Garnett is healthy, very good title chance for two seasons.

Bruins:
Won a playoff series!
This team is still kinda dead to me until the ownership is gone or they advance to a conference finals.

- The Nationals being total crap. Makes me less sad about how we lost the Expos.
- Seeing the Raiders win a game. That's a rare sight. I hadn't seen one in the last five years.
- Talks about the Nordiques coming back. They have the money for a new stadium and will build it if the NHL shows interest. The Canadiens being sold recently helps a lot.
- The Alouettes kicking everybody's asses in the CFL. On that note, the Tiger-Cats not being total crap for once is also nice.
- The Colts being in the playoffs for the last 7 seasons.
- The Red Sox being in the World Series, so they can kick the Yankees ass.
- Not seeing any NBA.
- How I can choose to watch the french or the english sports channel because they don't air the same stuff.

-Seeing the 49ers finally be taken seriously again atfer weathering the loser slump for the last 6 years.
-Listening to people here in England talking passionately about the NFL and preferring it over Soccer.
-What will please me next season is seeing Crabtree re-enter the draft and be selected in the third round.

The Phillies winning a World Series, and winning it this year being definitely possible.

Not to pick nits, but the Red Sox and Yankees cannot meet in the World Series, since they play in the same league. The latest they can meet in the playoffs (and incidentally, the only possible time they CAN meet in the playoffs) is the ALCS.

As far as Chicago goes...

- The White Sox getting Jake Peavy. The White Sox are shaping up to have one of the best rotations in all of baseball, with Peavy, Buehrle, Danks, Floyd, and Garcia/Hudson. Now if they can get a less erratic offense and a decent bullpen, they'd be set.

- The Blackhawks starting up again Friday after their breakout season. A lot of people are picking the Blackhawks to be the ones to wrestle the Central Division crown away from Detroit this year (finally) and I hope we get to meet Detroit again and kick the snot out of them in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Fuck the Red Wings.

- The Bears are in season, and despite some struggles (and the losses of Desmond Clark and Brian Urlacher), they're pulling their own weight. After his disastrous debut at Lambeau, Cutler has been solid, and Johnny Knox has emerged as a big-play threat every time he's on the field. I'm predicting that they'll make the playoffs, with an 11-5 record.

Jake Peavy is my favorite non-red sox player, but he is very injury prone and expensive, I would have made the deal though because he is plain filthy.

And technically, he didn't say that they would play the Yankees in the world series.

Especially for what the Sox gave up for him (the biggest player they gave up was Clayton Richard)...he is expensive, but he's a true ace when healthy. That rotation would scare anyone. They just need a slight overhaul on offense, and a remodeling of the bullpen (something tells me Jenks is gone, with Thornton manning the closer's role full time).

I read it as he wanted the Red Sox to make the World Series so they can beat the Yankees in it.

Yeah, I would peg the White Sox as instant front runners in the Central next year, I like that they mixed things up a bit...I don't really get the Alex Rios pick up though? Too pricey for too little for a crowded outfield.

And I was just breakin ya balls on the Yanks-sox WS thingy

Well, there's talk of both Jermaine Dye and Scott Podsednik leaving after this year, which would clear the outfield considerably. Personally, I think Dye is gone, and I think Pods will come back for one more year. So we'll have an outfield of Podsednik, Rios, and Quentin, with Wise/Kotsay as the 4th OF.

Rios is a gamble taken by the White Sox, as he's young and a good-fielding CF, both of which we've needed since Aaron Rowand departed. He's had a bad season with the stick, but the Sox are hoping that this year is just an anomaly.

My biggest worry for the Sox is their bullpen...it was hot garbage this year, with the only reliever that showed any consistency being Matt Thornton...but he's starting to get old, so the Sox have a fine mess to clean up as far as their BP goes.

The Red Sox clinched a playoff birth!

Congratulations.

Since my Sox aren't going to be factors, my team is going to be the Rockies. They're a team that doesn't have much flash, but they get the job done. Also, I love rooting for the underdog, unless my team is the favorite.

You think so? You don't think that their schedule and a fluke play have helped them out a lot? I think through 8 games they will prob. be 4-4.

Is it wrong to just enjoy how your team's progressing?

The Habs stealing 2 games in overtime. They were dominated in those games (34 shots to 15 againt the Sabres), but still found a way to win (Carey Price, plus some luck).

The fact that Rio De Janeiro will host the 2016 Olympic Games. Here's hoping it will revamp the city in a quite great way, because Rio is in REAL need of some changes in its infrastructure.

Ya, the thing that sucks about a Bball league is that they play every night so it's real easy for everyone to stop caring. Having to change your roster every night kind of sucks to.

Well, with the 4-0 start and a winnable division, I would say they have a strong chance to nab the division. I hope they do, cuz the chargers are one of the only teams I really dislike.
