Jonathon Papelbon said that he thinks he should close the All-Star game for the AL over Rivera:

"We've both earned that right; us, by winning the World Series and having the opportunity of having our manager there and our team being represented, and Mariano by what he's done for this role, we're in Yankee Stadium and blah, blah, blah... If I was managing the team, I would close."

I think what he meant by "blah, blah, blah" is that Rivera is statistically better than he is this season.

Rivera ERA: 1.06, 50K
Papelbon ERA: 2.43, 51K

Rivera Saves/Save Opportunity: 23/23, 0 blown
Papelbon Saves/Save Opportunity: 28/32, 4 blown

Rivera Walks or Hits/Inning Pitched: 0.64
Papelbon Walks or Hits/Inning Pitched: 0.96

I guess he deferred his comments, but whatever. He's not better than Rivera, at least not this season.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

I haven't been keeping up but Cliff Lee's going to pitch for the AL right?

Yeah. I mean I know he's the league leader in wins, but Wins are one of the most overrated stats when it comes to measure how good a pitcher is. Either way, I would of had Halladay start.

Wins basically mean you didn't let the other team score as much as you when you left the game. That's a pretty good stat to have a lot of #'s in the W column for. ESPECIALLY on the Indians this year.

Love the Gianna Michaels sig.

Papelbon's an idiot...but he's a great end-of-the-game idiot. Rivera deserved it.

Rivera is a legend. I don't like AL, or eastcoast teams really, but Rivera is an amazing closer, they are in yankee stadium for the allstar, and papelmeister simply didn't have as good of stats as Kubo pointed out. Rivera is old, and he will be gone soon, Pap will get his day, if he stays good. He just made himself sound like an arrogant prick. Besides, neither really closed because the game went 15 innings.

Eh, I would argue that Rivera's a bigger idiot, and a bigger asshole too:

1. He built an electric fence around his swimming pool. An ELECTRIC FENCE around a THING FILLED WITH WATER. Way to go, you fucking genius.
2. Too cheap to hire professionals, he forced two family members to clean said pool.
3. Said family members were electrocuted and subsequently killed when part of the fence fell into the pool.
4. Rivera, who was about to head into the 2004 ALCS said the following of their deaths: ""I have to comply with my family obligations, and I will return to New York on Tuesday."

That's right, he didn't say he was upset, or it was a tragedy, or they were good people, or anything. The only reason he went to the funerals was because he "had to comply" with "family obligations". What a fantastic human being.

Until Papelbon is that selfish and criminally negligent, I don't think it's fair to call him an idiot.

Nah... I can call Papelbon an idiot. I can just add the Rivera is an asshole in his personal life.
Plus, as a Yankee fan, I'm programmed to absolutely hate everything in a Red Sox uniform. That said, I actually really like Terry Francona.
