I never really liked the original The Poseidon Adventure. It was kinda boring, mainly becaucse it lacked the modern technology that's needed to make a truly great disaster film. Still, I kinda want to see the remake. Maybe it's $140,000,000 million budget, or maybe it's the fact that Kurt Russell is the greatest actor ever.

I guess I'll see it at some point, although I'm not as excited about it as I would be if Titanic was never made.

I like Kurt Russell too (I hope Syd was being serious and not sarcastic). His Wyatt Earp was quality, and as an ice hockey player/fan, I thought he was awesome as Herb Brooks in Miracle. Dead on.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

Syd, exactly where did this movie get a $140 trillion dollar budget? (And don't you DARE edit your post to fix that mistake, because it's priceless!)

Anyone seen the OTHER remake of The Poseidon Adventure, made last year (this year?) for TV and starring Firefly's Jayne?

Of course I'm being serious. Aside from questionable movies like Dreamer, I'm a huge Kurt Russell fan.

I knew I liked Syd Cool

Actually, I think Kurt Russell will be among the first to die. We all expect him to be the Gene Hackman character. What better way to surprise the audience than killing him? Watch the commercials, he's only in two scenes: the ball room and a hallway half filled with water. He's not in any other shots! I hope they don't kill him. I'm still crying from Backdraft Crying

I'm also a big fan of the original. I saw it when I was about 8 and have watched it at least once a year since then. I also love The Towering Inferno. OJ rules!

I saw it the day it came out (not that I wanted to mind you, I just saw the first and it was slightly interesting, and it was the only one I had any interest in on Friday).

As you probably would imagine, it was relatively the same story but with some good (like the boat turning over of course) and some corny special effects.

And no, the first (important-ish, many people die before this one) character to die is some totally random guy who helps out the escape group. Well, I should rather say he is murdered.

If you want me to spoil the "story", just ask me, the movie isn't that good and some effects (explosions) get old really fast when they use them for the 50th time in the same place on the boat.

Finally saw the film, several weeks late, I really enjoyed it. Was it as good as the original? Well, it's missing the awesome-ness of the 70s, but not enough to seriously hurt it.

It's short, exciting, doesn't slow down even for a laugh, a lot of water, a lot of fire, a lot of wind. It's definitely a film that brings new meaning to the story of "Man vs. Nature".

Overall, a good summer film. No Armageddon, but I'd watch "Poseidon" over "The Day After Tomorrow" again.

Kurt Russell is still pretty freakin' awesome.

Many claim the original is good. I saw the original a while ago on an AMC (TV Channel) special about a month ago. It is okay, but it has virtually zero laughs and zero blood. From what I hear, most people liked it because of the characters. Mind you, I don't mind a good story with good characters, but the Original was a relatively uninteresting movie in my opinion.

As explained on the recent DVD release, most of the fans of the original are people who saw the film as a kid. I saw the original in the single digits on A&E, so I support that theory.

This is also the same person who says "Superman IV: The Quest For Peace" is the best Superman movie.

And "Care Bears II" is the best Care Bears film

I somehow missed this post... I also missed that version, but I taped it, but still haven't watched it... oddly enough I didn't know Adam Baldwin was in it... and now I really want to see it.

I finally saw this last night. It was very over the top, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
