Over the last few weeks, there have been some changes to the forum rules. Please take some time to look at them here:

Most recently, I have added a rule about English. English is not everyone's first language and the two week ban that RegalSin received does not mean that it is now open season on people's grammar skills. RegalSin was banned for racism and endorsing sleeping with girls as young as 12, not his lingual skills.

I'd like to appeal the ban on the word "sammich". If it's good enough for MST3K's Crow, it oughtta be good enough for us.

I have to concur with DarkMaze, but I request we add "totes" to the banned words list as well.

"Totes" is what some kids say instead of "totally", such as "That is totes awesome".

I thought maybe you had something against tote bags. I honestly haven't heard that word used as such. It is indeed annoying and I'll probably punch the first person I hear say it.

Was that last post specifically designed to be as far from English as possible while still being decipherable? We understand English isn't everybody's first language, but I imagine if people can read the site's content and the posts on the forum, then they can probbaly give typing in English "the old college try".

Everyone EVERYONE should learn to speak english, at least on some basic level. English is relatively easy to learn to the point where people actually understand you. I pretty proud of my english, and if I ever learn spanish, I could travel across half of the world without a prob.

I disagree. Yes, English is important to learn because it is now the language of diplomacy (formerly french was), but English is NOT easy to learn. English has to be the most convoluted language ever. I took Spanish which was easy (and all the romance languanges are relatively similar). I also studied a little Japanese on my own and the language feels like it was designed by engineers...good engineers. I think English has more rules to learn than other languages, but I am 99.9% certain that it has FAR more exceptions to all of its rules than any other language does.

Oh, but don't use that as an excuse please Laughing

Ok Jeebus, I didn't say you have to be walking dictionary. I said that everyone should be capable of speaking english on basic level such as " I can not understant wat yo meen ". Sure it's illwritten but you can make out what I need. Secondly, studies on languages show that english is extremely easy to learn for those who do not speak english as their first language. For example my national language finnish, is in top 5 of most-fucking-difficult-languages-to learn and it's the only one in that group that uses roman alphabets. I cant say what studying english is for someone living in U.S.A, so I might have misunderstood your statement
