Thanks for the sub!

The intermittent 'e' is because Soldierhawk is often taken, so I had to make due by adding E where I couldn't take my prefered name.

I would add a hyphen if possible where the regular name isn't available. Soldier-Hawk. Looks kinda like a badass code name.

Watching women in skimpy clothing, the only good thing about summer in the Hamptons imo.

I decided to ask for a raise this morning since it will be my three years anniversary soon and dang it I deserve once since I don't even remember the last time I got one. My boss not only agreed, but let me know that someone was just fired for poor performance, and it happens to be the most irritating employee in the company. The sort whose voice always floods the building and has the most annoying laugh and never ever occurs to them while they watch videos on speakers that as the sole video editor, I need a quiet working environment at all times. I'll probably get a good pay grade increase and I'll take it as a reward for putting up with his loudmouth, inconsiderate ass for three years.

[Edit]Got that raise. And all it took was to remove the lowest-performing employees at the parent company.

I haven't posted in quite a while, as I've been occupied by other things that are way more awesome than internet forums, which leads me to today's about about that which makes me really fucking happy.

I bought an engagement ring today.

It is hidden in my house in a secure location, inside a box that is inside another box that is inside a bag. Every night, I take it out and stare it with wonder for half an hour before I go to bed. I feel like Isildur. Just a heads up, in case you guys find me full of orc arrows on the bank of the Anduin.

Good luck with your engagement Lesh!

I started graduate school last year and just began my second semester. I've been stressed out to the max as a new doctoral student, I have no idea what I'm doing most of the time and the amount of work is horrific to say the least. However, I survived my first semester and did much better than I expected; after going home to see my family for a month, I feel much more prepared to get through this semester than I did the last one.

It feels nice to not doubt my abilities for once.

A few months back, I bought a MIDI controller. It's a music keyboard without built-in speakers, so it interacts with computers (USB cable) and software (digital audio workstation/DAW, virtual instruments).

I got it to try to push some creativity in my life, and since my appreciation for music has grown exponentially over the last decade. This said, while the computer and software side of things should come naturally to me, I have zero musical training, so getting the hand of actually playing the thing is going to take time.

I've mostly been practicing some piano scales. Though today I figured out how to play soundfonts in the DAW. This lead to me recreating some (very!) brief snippets of Mega Man X and Kirby's Dream Land 3 tunes, using the actual instruments/sounds from the SNES.

I'm not necessarily looking to learn/cover video game tunes, but the fact that things seem to be clicking together is really cool, and a great motivator to keep practicing and experimenting.
