Getting my own RV~

It needs some work, but much of the inside has been remodeled, it was cheaper than the camper I was thinking of getting (which was $4500, this one was only $3000), and since it's an RV, it can drive itself so no need for a truck to move it.

I also have a place where I can hook it up to utilities so now I have a cheap place to live in where I still live within walking distance from my job and I don't need roommates to share rent with. Fuckin' awesome~

I'm in the process of buying my first house!

Cross-post this into "this shit really gives me anxiety" and "This shit makes me realize I'm definitely an adult, which is weird because in my head I'm about 17."

Missed this response, or would've replied sooner. Laughing

I just looked at the prices and they went up quite a bit from when I bought it Shocked

I also got it in a package deal with a really nice Nikon 18-55mm lens, a less nice (but still good) 70-300mm Nikon lens, and a few cheapo specialty lenses (the fish-eye one is fun). All at less than the current price of the camera body. Guess I got lucky with that one. Cool

The only problem it has is low cache memory so you only get 3-4 rapid shots before it slows down. So it isn't good for action photography.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When Hastings closed out in October I got a bunch of good deals out of that. Some great schlock movies I wouldn't pay full price for but would for $3-5.

Got Mario Maker and the WiiU Pro controller. That controller is FANTASTIC. It's so lightweight and the analog movement so smooth.

Also got a bunch of records because they were so damned cheap. I are hipster naow.
Being out in the country, in Texas, most of the records were Country and Gospel but I got some Charlie Pride, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Oakridge Boys, The Moody Blues and some old movie soundtracks. Also these:

Image
The guy at the checkout was a bro and rang them all up at 'Generic Vinyl' price of 50¢ (He was also giving away free anything that didn't ring up properly Laughing ).

But the Vinyl buying was just an excuse so I could order these:

I love this band but legitimately owning the CDs is outrageously expensive if you didn't get the limited reprint batch. ($100+ Evil ) A big plus is now I have the songs in 320 kbps instead of the lower quality pirated versions I had been listening to.

Plus I've got a start on that album cover wall art like I mentioned in the Album Cover thread.

Also got Idol Janshi Suchie-Pai for my Saturn Razz
Fun little Mahjong game (or, in this case, games).

I hate the new Smashing Pumpkins album with every fiber of my being, but I was curious to hear your thoughts on it.

EVERY fiber? Laughing

I think it's 'okay-nothing-special'; going by songs:

Tiberius - good opening song
Being Beige - synth drums, but closer to older-styled sound
Anaise!- one of the weaker ones, very odd sound, repetitive
One and All - Sort of Machina-era sound, too repetitive
Run2me - 80's synth-pop...very odd
Drum + Fife - favorite on the album
Monuments - also good
Dorian - more synth drums, very repetitive, but doesn't sound that bad
Anti-Hero - decent closer

Four songs I like, two that are 'okay' , one 'blah', and two I don't care for. The whole thing is a little too repetitious.

It won't unseat any old favorites, maybe Oceania is better (haven't listened to that one much), but it's still miles ahead of Teargarden by Kaleidyscope

Also doesn't hurt that it only cost me 50¢ Razz

I feel bad that before I clicked that link, I knew what the picture was going to be, and I remembered that Woodzy responded with "That's golden, Prengles."

It's almost time to get annual training over with. Last one, and I'm out of the army shortly after.

Gonna be nice to be free again. Been a long time.

Lesh/Hawk, do you guys have any big plans coming up?

I will most likely visit Colorado later this summer. Tour some breweries with friends, and maybe go for some hikes. Really looking forward to it!

I've been writing short fiction on and off for several years, and out of the blue I got an idea for a novel a couple months ago. I've been jotting ideas into a notebook, and now that I have eight weeks off, I'm gonna take a crack at a draft of this thing.

I'll also be kayaking and playing Nintendo games. And I wish I was there with you for brewery tours.

No big plans for me. Just finishing up AT, and never having to do that again! I'll be happy just to be done with that, and to relax for a bit. I've been working hard on my Youtube channel and Patreon--trying to get that to a place that will make up for the money I'll be losing getting out of the army.

That trip sounds awesome, Preg! I hope you have a great time. And Lesh, kick ass on that writing. I can't wait to see it published.

Getting through a house fire that somehow caused almost no damage. It apparently started in the attic in some fire-retardant insulation. There was no open flame, but thankfully it caused a shitload of smoke so we could realize there was a problem before it spread too much. The firefighters had to flood the wall and floor as the fire was slowly crawling there. They broke through the roof, which didn't matter as the fire was caused during roofing work so it had to be broken through anyway. The only real damage we got was caused by the flooding, mostly ruined walls and floor in a closet.
The water also reached down to my room on the first floor, dripping all over my laptop and phone. I fully expected them to be broken, but somehow the only thing that got damaged is the laptop's keyboard.

This could have gone so much worse, as after the fact we realized we probably noticed the fire about 30 minutes after it started. There was a burning smell, but it wasn't alarming at first because it could have just been caused by the roofing work.

Wow. I'm so happy that things worked out so well, lava. Thank god you and your family are okay, and that your house is (mostly) okay! Is the roofing company going to cover the cost of the damages?

Also, you'll have to forgive the fact that I couldn't help giggling when you said that the fire started in FIRE RETARDED INSULATION.

Worst. Fire retardant. Ever.

Thanks Hawk, we really got lucky on this. Had this happened at night we could have had smoke poisoning. I guess the fire alarms would have awakened us but I'd rather not chance it.

Most of the damage was in the attic or on the roof itself, so they basically covered most of the damage by having to do more work at the same price lol. I'm not sure how it would have worked out if the damages were more substantial. The house isn't very fire safe in the first place because the previous owner was an incompetent DIY guy and made fucking awful electric wiring.

As for the fire retardant, I'd say it did its job. It's fire retardant, not fireproof, and it covered the super old wood of the walls in the attic that would have burned much faster. The damages were minimal because the fire spread so slowly.

Nintendo's E3. That is all.

Actually, no. I also love the music of Weezer, and I'm glad their last two albums were actually great. Certainly an improvement from the Make Believe-Hurley era (Ratitude in particular was fucking awful). Those were dark days for Weezer fans, but then Everything Will Be Alright In The End and The White Album made everything right again. Let's hope The Black Album continues that streak.

Thanks for the sub!

The intermittent 'e' is because Soldierhawk is often taken, so I had to make due by adding E where I couldn't take my prefered name.

I presumed it was because you're half French and liked adding silent letters randomly just to fuck with people.

I mostly like that movie, but the synth soundtrack has not aged well, to say the least. And I actually like the Tangerine Dream soundtrack to Legend.
