Okay, so we all love Disney"s famous classics like The Lion King, Beauty And The Beast, Pinocchio, Aladdin, Dumbo, etc. But what about the movies that not everyone gushes about on a daily basis? The forgotten Disney movies, if you will. I say we talk about these movies in this thread.

I love Brother Bear, I don't care what the critics say about it. The animation is gorgeous, it's use of an Eskimo-like culture is a definite plus, and Phil Collins+Disney is always a great combination. Kenai becoming like an older brother to Koda is legitimately heartwarming.

Lilo And Stitch may be my favorite post-Renaissance Disney movie. Hell, it's one of my favorite Disney movies, period. It's hilarious, Stich is such a lovable character, and the relationship between Lilo and her sister is genuinely heartwarming. They always fight, like siblings do, but you know they love each other, and Nani would do anything for Lilo. It's also depressing, as Lilo is constantly in danger of being taken away by the state and entering foster care. It uses mature, and realistic, themes to tug at our heart strings. And yet, the amount of charm this movie has is enough to prevent it from being totally depressing. The Hawaiin settings, the Elvis songs, and the Sci-Fi themes seal the deal for me.

I have some more I want to talk about, but I'll save them for later posts. What are some of the "other" Disney movies that you think deserve more love?

The Great Mouse Detective:

I love detective stories, Sherlock in particular. This movie deserves more attention. As well as Sherlock Hound

The Rescuers / The Rescuers Down Under:

I watched these two enough as a kid to wear out the tapes.

The Fox and the Hound:
Image

I haven't watched it in so long, it might just be pure nostalgia bringing it to mind. I think I'll watch it again.

Oliver and Company:
Image

Another one that might be childhood nostalgia-based, I do remember liking one of the songs, and having the talking McDonald's toy for a real long time (I think it ended up as a dogs chew toy)

Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey:

I bet this was a pain to film. Razz

Dragonslayer:

Good effects work in this one.

Return to Oz:

Creepy-ass movie. Smile

No we don't.

Sorry, don't mean to piss on your post, but I've hated disney for more than 20 years.

I think Atlantis: The Lost Continent and Treasure Planet were actually pretty awesome and I keep hoping they get some kind of love in the KH games (same for Black Cauldron--though Disney's practically disowned that financial blunder).

Why the disdain for Disney?

Probably the two Disney films I have seen throughout my life more times than any others are "The Sword in The Stone" and "Bed Knobs and Broom Sticks".

I have a great appreciation for both of those films.

The Sword In The Stone was indeed a great movie. I feel that if it was released when Disney was alive, it would have been more popular.

I also like Homeward Bound, though I haven't seen it in a long time.

The Fox And The Hound is a fantastic movie about the power of friendship. However, I thought it was one of their most popular movies, especially outside of the Walt Disney and Renaissance Eras.

My girlfriend has taken it upon herself to expose me to a bunch of Disney movies since my dad banned them during my childhood. My favorite is definitely Hunchback of Notre Dame.

HoND is definitely one of my favorites. It had a bit of a darker timbre to it, especially in some of the tunes. Plus, it has Tom Hulce (Mozart in Amadeus) and I just love his voice for some reason.

I'd like to read the original novel by Hugo, but I've never gotten around to it. It's amazing in general how Disney took all these dark stories and made them into childhood fodder. I still don't know if I mean amazing in the good or bad sense. Probably both.

Tarzan is a fantastic movie. Gorgeous animation, great music, and one of my favorite Disney villain deaths, along with Frollo from Hunchback Of Notre Dame.

Holy shit, so many awesome movies I forgot about!

I really liked Mulan as a kid, nobody ever talks about that one. I also like Tron, makes being inside a computer seem cool as fuck.

Disney never stuck with me for some reason. I've seen most of the movies, both huge and obscure, but the only one I would say I even kind of liked was Aladdin, which is of course in no way shape or form one of their lesser known films.

Sword and the Stone is a weird film. They take the one of the coolest, manliest storiest ever, Camelot, and turn it into a fucking Sesame Street-like series of lessons about love and shit.

My top five favorite Disney movies are
1. Tarzan
2. Mulan
3. Lilo and Stitch
4. Hunchback
5. Hercules

Nobody ever praises these, but I think they are all great. In fact, the older the movie, the less I like it. Pinocchio is the only Walt Disney movie I like. I think the others are pretty boring.

The Hunchback Of Notre Dame is one of the greatest animated movies ever. Why don't people talk about it in the same light as The Lion King? Oh well, in recent times, I have seen a few people who give it the attention it deserves.

And I used to love Mulan, but I haven't seen it in a long ass time.

And does anyone else like A Goofy Movie? Yeah, it's not one of Disney's most spectacular masterpieces or anything, but it's a very enjoyable film nonetheless.

I haven't seen it in like twelve years, but I recall A Goofy Movie being pretty good. It might've been the beginning of Disney trying to be "rad" though. That turned out to be a bad call.

I second Brother Bear
Bedknobs and Broomsticks always gets looked over in favor of Mary Poppins
The Aristocats is a fun little romp.
Robin Hood rocks!
Sword in the Stone is an underrated classic
The Rescuers is pretty good.
I liked Rescuers Down Under even better
The Great Mouse Detective had one of the most cold-blooded and competent villains in Disney history, You don't mess with Rattigan and come out unscathed.
I love Fantasia
I prefer Sleeping Beauty over Cinderella
The Fox and the Hound is one of my all time favorites

I think the most forgotten Disney Movie is probably this one:
