We should write an article ourselves, one sentence at a time, and publish it to the front page as an image of what the community is like and what regular visitors are missing out on by not going to the forums.

I'm not a bad enough dude, but I am an edgy little shit. I'll do what I can.

I think for 2015, we should change the purple and green color scheme. Just to at least see how weird it'd be.

Never! Though it is unfortunate that green and purple have been appropriated by a well-known Internet movement. Those are OUR colors!

I don't use Windows 98. and I never have a bunch of tabs open. Forums are working fine today.

I've never associated green with this website. It's all purple and black. Is your vision burning out?

There's green in the actual logo of the site and all of the borders are green.

Well, the main page banner doesn't have green in it.

But yes, green is used in both the news blog and the forums. Because I liked the Constructicons. Green and purple!

I think it's absolutely beautiful that this site hasn't changed its look in the entire time I've been here. There are some sites you leave for a while, and when you return, you feel like you never belonged. After my absence, coming back here was like coming home.

I agree that the site needs more content. I don't think it should be on Syd's shoulders though. I'm glad to see Ms. Lexia writing articles, and I've always liked Vald's contributions. Perhaps we could set up a writers' workshop and present ideas and peer-edit each other's pieces, with final approval being left to Syd and a council of ancient elders.

When is Vald going to do another article? His are some of my favorites. Especially Law Of The West.

And I agree this site design does not need to change one bit.

Yeah, another Valdronius article would be awesome. I am also in the camp that is suggesting a user article feature. It'd be nice, and would lead to a lot of new content.

Also, keep writing, Kris. You have really impressed me so far. Maybe some of Big Brother Lexia's greatness is rubbing off on you?

I still think it's best to be patient and wait for Syd's creative juices to flow. I think user articles just aren't keeping in with the spirit of the site. We've all tried our own thing here and there and some went good, some went bad, some stagnated, etc.. but I think it's best to just keep this site in the family, so to speak. Oh and Vald.

Yeah, that's a fair point Woodzy. I say it's up to Syd and the council of ancient elders.

Thank you so much Very Happy I've been wanting to contribute to the site since long before I was qualified to talk about retro pop culture, so it's rewarding to know that my contributions are to snuff! Honestly my dream for the future is to be as funny as my big brother. We're almost the same person anyways, except he likes swearing on the page and I prefer swearing at the dinner table.

I hate to interrupt the talk of more general improvements for the site, but I still think there are technical things that need to be addressed.

Firstly, there needs to be a YouTube bbcode tag so we can use the new YouTube embed code:

1) The old embed code is depreciated, and I wouldn't be surprised if YouTube dropped support for it entirely, leaving this board with no means of YouTube embeds.
2) The old embed code only works with Flash. It's 2015, the web has almost entirely moved on from Flash, and for various good reasons.

Secondly, but much less important, the unread messages indicator seems to randomly mark all as read, especially on mobile devices.

As for updating the forum software, if we can get the forums to look and function very similar and can ether move the current forum's data (posts, user database) over to the new one, or create an archive of the forums as they are, then we should go for it.

Do NOT, under any circumstances, overhaul this site.

I say that out of experience, even within the same niche (retro stuff). The complete overhaul of RetroJunk.com was devastating to it's membership and activity. Heck, it is the reason why RetroDaze exists to begin with - simply to satisfy those who were disappointed with everything that happened, and were open to beginning anew somewhere with a more familiar, inviting look... and more varied content and features.

Do NOT change anything unless it is minor, or backend. You have been warned. Wink

I have no plans to change the main page layout, for sure.

I would like to add increased functionality to the forums, but only if I can retain the basic look of the forums and the old posts.
