Maybe he meant they just have to file for infringement with the court instead of sue or have a trial???

Yeah, the copyright holder still has to go before a judge and argue copyright infringement. If the judge decides the claim is worthy of a trial, then under the new legislation, the potentially infringing information would be blocked immediately.

THEN THERE IS STILL A TRIAL.

And if the defendant is found to be not infringing, the information is unblocked at the conclusion of the trial.

Such things are not so incredibly novel in American law. If someone brings a lawsuit against you, your assets can be frozen to prevent you from intentionally bankrupting yourself or giving all your money to your sister.

The idea behind this law is that infringement and piracy damage an IP and that over time piracy and infringement damage an IP exponentially rather than linearly, so allowing a defendant to continue to distribute such information during a trial is too damaging.

The second paragraph negated what you said in the first. Also, if it gets blocked, it would pretty much be the same thing as it been taken down by Nintendo's request. Except Nintendo didn't request it. And when before is it blocked? As soon as it is reported as infringing? As soon as Nintendo is about to start a lawsuit?

If the former is true than I was mostly right in it being automatic.

No, it doesn't negate it at all. What you said is that Nintendo has no choice in the matter, and the site is blocked automatically. That's wrong because Nintendo, even under SOPA would still have to request a C&D for the developer. AFTER that, the site could be taken down until a lawsuit finished. Nintendo still has to target the developer. It doesn't happen on its own.

Besides, the provision of the bill that allowed sites to be blocked has been removed anyway. Access to websites can no longer be blocked, whether SOPA passes or not.

Never mind Nintendo filing any kind of complaint. The developer also needs to worry about Capcom, Konami, Namco (who published the game Haggleman came from in Japan), Tecmo Koei and Sunsoft also having it taken down. Is it really worth risking a lawsuit from six or possibly even more companies for a single Flash game?

The reality about this game is that nobody cares. If they wanted it down, they could have gotten it down a long time ago.

I was just pointing out that Mr. Satire's assumptions weren't accurate.

Sure, nobody cares, but how could you be so sure? I've heard of cases of people using DMCA forms to remove videos that they don't even own just to get back at someone.

You know what I mean. The copyright holders for the characters present in that game cared, it would have been taken down already. Capcom, Namco and Nintendo don't need SOPA or PIPA to make him take is video down if he's using their trademarks without permission. Since I doubt he has their permission, the logical conclusion is that nobody gives a fuck.

Satire, what do you know or care? The bill doesn't even affect you one bit. You don't live within its jurisdiction. Let the Americans argue American law, okay?

The Internet is a world-wide service, and one country doing stuff like SOPA will do to the Internet will affect everyone who uses the Internet, myself included. Also, with all of this SOPA shitstorm going on, it's very easy to hear everything about it, since it has been shoved in my face constantly.

You can switch between NES and Game Boy graphic sets if you don't like the SNES ones.

Is there a way to play a downloaded version of this game in fullscreen? I've used 3 different flash programs and although they do manage to fullscreen the game, they all leaved it cropped to windowed size for some reason.

The only way I can play it under uncropped fullscreen is through the website using Swiffout, but it won't work without internet access and I may want to play this game on the road.

Who's up for some Kickstartin'?

As much as I like the idea, the flagrant copyright infringement and the ability to drop characters into a world they don't belong in are what made Crossover special. Without it, this is just another 8-bit-esque game in a climate with enough of them to spare.

If anyone still cares about this game, 3.0 is out with the Super Mario Bros. Special levels.

Wow. I'm sure I'll be downloading this at some point. Doubt I'll play it for more than a couple hours, but I bet those hours will be entertaining.

Speaking of Crossover, at some point they finally added the SMB2j levels. Right now I'm going through the Special levels with Zelda and it's oddly satisfying in a similar way to playing through Super Mario 3D World with Peach, even though Zelda in this game has lesser abilities than Link.

And if anyone cares about the Kickstarter, they changed the name of the game to Super Action Squad. Also, it's well past March 2013, their given tentative release date, and there's a number of reasons it isn't out yet and probably won't be in the foreseeable future. The biggest reason is that they restarted development in August and made it 16-bit instead of 8-bit, and that's a good enough reason for me.
