I've never seen the picture of the Burning Monk before. That's terrible.

He actually burnt himself to death in protest due to the persecution of Buddists by Catholics in his country. It's also the cover of Rage Against the Machines first album.

Sudan Famine - this has an interesting piece of history. It was photographed by Kevin Carter and won the Pulitzer Prize that year. Carter killed himself the following year due to depression with regards to him just taking the picture and not even helping the little girl in the photo. He is memorialised in Kevin Carter by the Manic Street Preachers.

Probably because I studied it so much, but the Kursk one always gets me. It's one of the few times in history that such a massive engagement had been planned months in advance. Knowing for such a long time that you'd be thrown into such a massive meat grinder must have been hell on your nerves.


So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.
