I tend to play hard techno on vinyl from Detroit and Sweden or videogame soundtracks. My top multiplayer games are Smash Brothers series and Super Mario Strikers.

For Super Mario Strikers I have played to:
Kizakura - Drago blu
Kizakura - Tigre bianca
Kizakura - Tartaruga nera
Shinji Hosoe - Uccello rosso

all from Pink Sweets OST

For Super Smash Bros 64 I have played to:
Jeff Mills - Step to Enchantment (Stringent)
Jell Mills - Step to Enchantment (Nirvana)
Epsilon - Phasers to Kill
Thomas Krome - Demolition Disco [note: played at 33 rpm instead of 45 rpm]
Thomas Krome - Soulcollector [note: played at 33 rpm instead of 45 rpm]

For Super Smash Bros Melee I have played to:
Ultradyne - Law of the Land
Legowelt - Zompy Land
Legowelt - Aquajam

For Super Smash Bros Brawl:
play it to reggae or dancehall music on the ship stage. it's so trippy.

***

What do you play to? If you can list particular albums or songs for people who may want to build a playlist.

I played Fallout New Vegas with Ennio Morricone compositions from the spaghetti westerns he composed soundtracks for.

I only ever did it for skating games, and either have two playlists either consisting of skate punk or chill blues/hip-hop.

I tend to make a playlist for just about everything I play on a regular basis. My best one was probably Fallout, which is up to over 200 songs at this point. All of it is that same kind of 40s-50s music that's in those games. It really works well.

I did a similar thing with Fallout 3.

I had always thought about doing that, but I always liked Three Dog's news updates on all of my doings. Mr. New Vegas didn't give me that same feeling of empowerment.

I hated Three Dog. I did the mission associated with him and then I killed him. I found Margaret(she replaces Three Dog if you kill him) to be slightly less irritating.

I loved that soundtrack when I was a kid and didn't know better, then again I remember the movie being a lot more awesome when I was a kid too. Embarrassed

I just turn on random music when I play games. I have this massive 500 song playlist that I find a song I want to hear and put it on and then just hit the skip button on my keyboard when I don't want to hear whatever the shuffle thing chooses next. It is a mix of all sorts of genres. Country, Rock, Metal, Pop, whatever the hell Daft Punk is, whatever the hell the Mighty Mighty Bosstones are, and Rap it doesn't really matter to me, just skip to what I want to hear.

Same here. Mr. New Vegas was lame. Three Dog made it sound like you were becoming a legend. But Even as much as I enjoyed him, his updates and the dozen or so music tracks in the game got pretty stale, considering that I dumped close to 300 hours into that game.

I'm going to catch some shit for this, but another one of my best playlists was the one I made for Black Ops. It was all Nam' era music and I have about 4 hours of it. It's such a good playlist that I listen to a lot when I'm not even playing the game.

Me and my buddies used to drop shrooms at the Capcom office after hours and play Super Smash Brothers while listening to Bombay the Hard Way:

I cannot play any iteration of Super Smash Brothers without humming it. Good times!

I got Oasis' Wonderwall album as a gift at the same time as Super Metroid. I then spent days playing the game while listening to the album and now I can't hear those songs without thinking of Super Metroid or play Super Metroid without humming Oasis songs. Very Happy

My favorite thing to play Resident Evil 4 to was rockabilly. Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison...stuff like that. The two step beat really fit with the pacing of the game's action.

I don't really listen to other music when I play games anymore, but when I was younger I had fond memories of playing Shadows of the Empire and Nightmare Creatures while listening to Social Distortion. It fit well for some reason.

The remixed version feat William Shatner is much superior.

I sometimes listen to music while playing. Mostly what i listen to at the moment, wich means in most cases rock music. I remember listening to "Light Up the Night" by the Protomen while fighting the Final Boss of Section Z. That kicked ass.

playing freeform sandbox games like Minecraft while listening to loose, airy, atmospheric ambient and post-rock is great and relaxing as fuck to do. stuff like massive attack, devin townsend's softer albums, jesu, explosions in the sky, so on.
