It will be awesome, despite what every dork who thinks Nintendo is the best ever, or who think only games made before 1995 are any good says.
You people who do hate Halo to be different do realize that it's become like hating the Yankees, right? Everyone hates the Yankees. The people who like the Yankees are the minority now.

It's not anything like hating the Yankees. Hating Microsoft is like hating the Yankees because they are the most powerful company around. Halo isn't THE biggest game out there right now, or even the biggest franchise; it just seems boring to me. Yet another FPS I don't care to play whose trademark is good graphics and a poor story. But hey, if I were Microsoft I'd be pumping out those games as long as they are marketable and viable, which they are.

Halo has an amazing story. Read the novels.

Oh, I don't doubt that Halo has a great story as far as the novels go. I've heard that plenty of times. But I don't want to have to do homework just so I can enjoy a game. I'll take FPS like Half-Life any day of the week over Halo because I don't need an entire back story to enjoy the story in the game.

Even Zelda I and II barely made sense without the manuals. Still playable, but not as enchanting.

I didn't think Halo really needed a backstory....you just play it and it unfolds.
The beta is pretty fun from what I've played.

Halo 2 is damn fun in multiplayer. My friend is bringing over his 360 tomorrow so that I can check out the beta.

Technology levels at the time made it very difficult to convey story in game.
Halo doesn't get that excuse, it was more than capable of making a good story in game considering the tech and memory levels available to it. The excuse that halo DOES get is the fact that as a FPS, it doesn't need a particularly strong story, nor does its genre have an illustrious history of writing. If you want to shoot aliens, you don't need to understand the complex workings of space age politics or tech info on how the planet ring works.
(My friends liked halo 1 multiplayer, and hated halo 2 in its entirety. I wasn't much for either. People divide randomly on those it seems)

Doom had basically no storyline except in the novels.

True, but it and Wolf 3D revolutionized the gaming world. Halo? Not so much.

Not everything needs to be original or innovative. There is great virtue to refinement. And even then a game with par for the course gameplay can be elevated by things like art direction or story, in such a way that it feels fresh or compelling.

I meant to say that an FPS doesn't really need a good storyline to have fun multiplayer.
Also, I'm borrowing my friend's 360 for a couple of days, so I'll be on live as Outlaw Chance. Hit me up if anyone wants to play some Halo 2 or Beta 3, or Crackdown.

Gamer achievements are fucking gay and lame. I play games to play games, not to unlock a menu of bullshit to fuel my budding sense of neurotic OCD tendencies.

You get a menu of bullshit for unlocking achievements??
I like achievements, but it's already kind of flawd since most of the people like my friend who have 25000 points got them from playing Madden or Cars. I like them, it can be fun and add some replay to the game after you beat it. I had a lot of fun getting the Tomb Raider ones, and it was fun when they had the "get 1500 points in a month for a free Contra" thing.

Seminal machinima comedy/videogaming program Red Vs. Blue will air its 100th and last episode Today.
The four-year-old serial, which follows two squads of inept Halo soldiers locked in endless combat, ushered in the era of computer-created entertainment and provided its many fans with lulz.
Series creator Michael "Burnie" Burns promises that Wednesday's final episode will "honor that unique distribution method -- we have the ability to do some things on the internet that you can't do in television or film."
Don't be too sad for the series, however. While the Wednesday's episode will end the storyline, there will be more Red and Blue in the form of as-yet-unscheduled specials.

I bet it ends just like the Sopranos.
