When I was about 9 I was in a day care program before school and I had a couple friends that were into games like Magic and Pokemon, but there was one card game I kind of enjoyed but never got to play more then once with them, mostly because I was borrowing their cards to play it.
I think it's name was the Fifth Age or something similar to it, and in it you had a deck and an "avatar" (I use that because it's the only way I could think of it now) From what I recall you could attack like Magic and the "avatar" could attack every turn. However if the "avatar" was killed then you lost. There was more to it, but it's been thirteen years so my memory is a little fuzzy on it.
Has anyone ever heard of this game before?

Can I get an actual year to work with?

The best I can find is

Age of Heroes which came out in 97 and Age of Empires from 2000.
